DP3d + Rman Subdivs

Has anyone had experience with using DP3d to create maps for Renderman Subdiv surfaces?

If so what do you find the best work flow is?

Im thinking that using a poly smooth function to smooth the base mesh a few times then paint that in DP3d, then apply that map to the Rman subdiv object. Will this work well or are there better ways?

Btw im using maya+entropy+mayaman
