double sided polys on export!?

#1

I’m finding that when I bring my wings model into 3dsMax that it becomes double sided. Is there a way of checking this or removing the redundant faces? 9I’m currently using .fbx to export but obj seems to do the same)

many thanks!

That’s strange. Does it a become a double-sided material setting, or two faces pointing in opposite directions? I’m guessing the first one.

I encountered similar problems, but with the 3ds format. My models were cut apart on the places where I’d cut edges for unfolding in wings. I had to select all vertices and numerically weld with a radius of 0.00001 or something…
fbx seems to work fine for me though, so I’m using that now.
Also 3ds supports only very short object names, this also makes life difficult on large scenes, because if the (by the export shortened) name is the same as the name of another object (and this happens a lot, if you have naming conventions for your models and want to be able to quickly select multiple objects by name), max will just create multiple ‘instances’ of the first object it encounters that has that name. So not only are there objects missing, but also some are x times there, at the same place, and you might not even notice!
I hope this text saves someone from the struggles I had
