Hi, Im still a 3D newbie, but from time to time I come up with this Crazy modell and i just love it. But then… the horrors of having Vertixes in the same spot, makes everything so much more difficult. Someone told me about a “Clean Up” tool in Wings3D, but havnt found it so far. So im asking here (while im at school) where this tool is. Usually when i find Double or Over running Vertixes i just quit the model, because i hate it since when i try to modell things go all un even and screw everything up! Help Please!
I also have this problem with Edges…
(Im so Glad this guy taught me what Edges and Vetices are, otherwise I’d still call them Dots and Lines! XP )
Double Edges and Vertices in the same spot Causing me Grieff
to cleanup the model, select the body (or is it faces?) then right click and select the Cleanup option. The defaults usually did me good, so just click Ok.
Body (Object) | Cleanup.
I’ve hotkeyed it - as, imo, it’s so useful.
As well as co-incident verts, very useful for getting rid of the verts left after dissolving edgeloops etc.
Something that might help with the original problem - try doing a trial smooth every now and again (esp. after doing some complex stuff?) and eyeball how the geom ‘flows’ - if it looks too weird then further investigation might be worthwhile - if you’ve not gone too far, you might be able to undo to the relevant state.
If you can’t (undo enough, that is) and you want to checkout what’s happened (without using Cleanup) - you could try using Tweak. This’ll (often) let you separate co-incident verts so you can then (see and thus) dissolve the duff geom on an individual basis.
Since Cleanup can sometimes affect unwanted areas (esp. on small-scale geom) - it might be an idea.
Finally, it might be worthwhile eyeballing the info readout (top left) to ensure you’re not inadvertantly selecting stuff you don’t want, when doing certain ops (like Extrude / Extract ->0) - and thus maybe minimise the chances of getting such stuff in the first place.

well, the thing about the over lapping verts and Edges, is that they sometimes just appear for no reason.
<< sometimes just appear for no reason. >>
In this case, the developers (and me, as an observer) would be interested in a few more details about the circumstances associated with their arrival / presence - especially if it’s possible to predict this behaviour.

well what I meant to say was: I have no idea what Im doing for these Verts and Edges to appear. I dont find out that they are there until I need to get rid of them :bounce:
Well, next time you get this situation, maybe you could post a pic of the problem area (and if poss. some idea of workflow used?) and someone might be able to help?
The simpler the geom. (and route to create it) the better, of course - but it’s accepted life is unlikely to play ball …
Doing a trial smooth and eyeballing geom. (as mentioned before) on a regular basis, together with increasing the number of undo levels (prefs-> misc) will help the investigation process - but that’s all upto you

hmm well I dunno, but im about to post my first acual acceptable work. (or i hope so)
so check out the WIP Forum soon for my Vampire.
Ill also post pics of it in the wings3d forum
