Dominance War IV : FAQ

#141

You need to Register and Login in the HomePage,
than select “Join/Edit 2D Challenge” or 3D one…

That’s what I did at last

Hi!

According DWIV rules:

Lighting/rendering: All lighting/rendering solutions from any software package on planet earth, is allowed.

Can I use Final Gather, HDRI, etc to finish my final render?

And, if my team logo is not really distinct to see it, but I really have put it on my character body, that’s ok?(your can see it in my thread:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=282&t=743669&page=4
The team logo is located in my character abdomen. Did you see that?)

Thanks for your answer.

Taken straight from the rules:

Note to all races and classes
Insignia and Colors:
Your character must possess your team’s colors and/or your team’s insignia (if your team has one). If you don’t have the colors or the insignia located somewhere on your character, your entry will not make it into the top 50. Please represent your team properly. This is a team event so make your team proud!

Again:

  1. Beauty Shot
  • You are free to do whatever post effects you like on this image. You can create multiple angles of your character or just one big version or your character. You can include background characters, environments, skies, effects… basically, anything!

EDIT:

Colour model sheets are fine.

You’re also able to post your submitted work (prior to being judged) on your portfolios

Cheers!

It’s obviously best to try and go with the colour scheme of your chosen forum. It’s a team competition and representing your forum is what it’s all about:

Note to all races and classes
Insignia and Colors:
Your character must possess your team’s colors and/or your team’s insignia (if your team has one). If you don’t have the colors or the insignia located somewhere on your character, your entry will not make it into the top 50. Please represent your team properly. Any verdict on the photo collage stuff? Can we use it for 2D submissions?

#147

For overlay purposes, I’d say no, as the work is intended to be made by entrants via traditional techniques (with traditional or digital media, of course).

For placing in the background, that’s fine in your final illustration only.

#148

Sorry, I should have stated my question more clearly. I don’t mean photo overlays in the way of actually using a whole photo, or a piece of a photo in its complete form, but more so of using photo overlays with different photoshop blending modes to achieve different textural effects or, like you mentioned, details in the background of our final illustration.

It looks like the previous years 2D winner (Hellstern) used some weathered paper texture overlay on her model sheet and concept board. On the final illustrations however, I can’t really tell if they used photo/texture overlays or not. Actually I feel like a lot of concept boards/model sheets I’ve seen around during the competition have texture overlays on them. I just wanted to know if there were any clear cut rules on this as far as where it can be used and where it can not be used.

I guess I wouldn’t really be asking about this except for the fact I know they were particular about the photo rules for the 3D entries. I just don’t want to shoot myself in the foot by using a photo overlay incorrectly and disqualify myself.

#149

Just got the official word that it’s fine to use photosourced overlays to acheive textural effects

#150

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

#151

I just re-read the rules as I’m close to finishing, and I read that we need not just our TEAM logo…but the DWIV logo as well! Where are we supposed to get that from???

Buh-ZING

This has to be the dumbest question this far, but where do we send the finished stuff? Do we email it somewhere? Upload it to an ftp?

Ok, I just missed the gigantic “click here to join” banner on their website http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/dw/4/view_entries/index_cgsociety_both.html

For CG Society members just enter the page:

http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/dw/4/view_entries/index_cgsociety_both.html

and click “Join/Edit 3D Challenge” or "“Join/Edit 3D Challenge”, depending on your entry. Then create your profile page, upload all your final images and click the “Submit Finals” at the bottom of the page.

#155

Maybe I’m just being dumb somehow…
But when I click join 2d and click the cgsociety button then try to join, it tells me I need to have an account here before I can join… which I’m pretty sure I have…
anyways if ANYONE could tell me what I’m doing wrong I would greatly appreciate it…
sure would crush my soul if I did all this work only to not be able to submit.

#156

Are you logged into the site with your account before you’re trying to hit the join/edit link?

If not, make a new account on GA.org and submit it with that

#157

I’m logged in here when I go to the link… but still no luck… I even have “remember me” on like it says…

Wouldnt it be like switching sides if I went to gameartisans.org to submit?
maybe I’m over thinking this…

#158

You have to be logged into GA.org to enter the comp. GA.org is the only place you can submit your work to.

You choose what forum you’re submitting for when you go over there and enter

#159

ah ok!
I got it to work now, I didnt realize i had to register there… but thanks for helping and putting up with my noobness.
always appreciated!

Last year I recall there was a thread were you could request a name change for your DW thread… Is there something like that this time?
