Dominance War IV : FAQ

#121

Modelling sheets for mounts?? What about…pets/minions…aka minor characters? Do you have to make a modelling sheet for all of them too or can you just put them in as part of the concept sheet??

#122

I have a similar question like Dargon. I´m not sure about it, but perhaps I wanted to add a treasure chest on the pedestrial or an old sunken fishing boat, because my character is some knd of underwater creature. Do you think this also forbidden ?

#123

Doylle: I was asking about the actual dominance war text logo, not the cgsociety logo. What about the text logo?

And anyone have any answers about the photo-overlay question? Its common in concept art, but is it allowed in this contest?

Another logo question. The rules state:

Insignia and Colors:
Your character MUST possess your team’s colors and/or your team’s insignia/logo. If you don’t have the colors or the insignia located somewhere on your character, your entry will not make it into the top 50. Please represent your team properly. This is a team event so make your team proud!

So I have to put a logo or colors on my 3D character. The rules doesnt specify that it has to be visible from all angles, so I put it on the backside so its not visible on the beauty shot because I think its ugly. This is ok, right? I dont have to cover my character with logos so they’re visible from all angles, do I?

Quick answers: Pets and other important parts that go with your character should be on your modelsheet. It does not matter if you add them next to your character, or if you split your model sheet up in multiple sections for each part. It is important to keep everything in 1 image though.

SebastianWunnicke: I’d keep that stuff of the pedestal. I small treasure chest might be still ok, but a fishing boat is to much. Mind you that the pedestal is only for the presentation shot. If you want an environment then you can do this in the beauty shot, since there are no limits there.

@xRaZx: My bad. you should add the DW4 logo indeed. Added the large version of it to the first post in this thread. I’ll see if i can find a psd or at least a version with proper alphachannels as well.

@Kaftan: The logo does not have to be visible from all angles, and it does not have to be visible in the beauty shot. It is perfectly fine to have it on the back. But it must be visible in at least one of the images.

Could someone with power change the title of my thread please, and replace “Evil Eye” with “Daemon War Child” (yep, Daemon with “ae”) which is what I’ve registered on GA - thanks!

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=282&t=742017

Also, can we now submit stuff to GA? Last time I tried I got an error and was told we weren’t supposed to be submitting. Has this changed?

#127

Cool, I could use that as well.

On the main Dominance War IV Rules page, it would be nice if the text “All images must include…Dominance War IV logo…” linked straight to an official PSD or PNG logo.

#128

Hey guys.

Here’s the .PSD logo you’re after!

hi folk

i wondered what was the correct pose for the 3d presentation shot ?

do we have to go for a completely neutral pose or can we have fun?

can the character be standing ready to chop off an enemys throat or not ?

#130

Hi people. I have a similar question like I2k. Perhaps you can help me, especially doylle ? :). I wondered if the front and back poses in the presentation shot, has to be totally frontal, or if we can rotate the angle a bit to the side. I am asking this becuase my character looks much cooler from a side view. You can see my presentation shot on the first side of my thread. I would be very happy, if you could take a look, and tell me, if I can do this. Thank you

I have similar question. I often use overlay/multiply/etc. layers in Photoshop to make the final image look more interesting. Am I allowed to do this for my character in 2D contest?

What about the background? Rules say: “The background can be anything”. Does it mean I can use (if I want to) 3D background with my 2D character?

I’m not sure if this has been answered yet, but is it ok for the model sheet to be fully colored? or does it have to be gray scale.

Thanks~!

#137

It must be either Black & White (Grayscale) or one colour piece.

#138

Can I publish the work in my CG Gallery in the meantime it’s judged
or I have to wait the end of the competition?

#139

I got this from Gameartisans.org. So yea you can color your modelsheet anyway you want! Though of course yo udont have to either.

edit: Concept sheet is still single color or B&W i think though.

Where do we submit our final entry?

Do we need to make a thread here; http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/dw/4/view_entries/index_cgsociety_both.html
