Hi!!
I’m new to gameartisan, i would like too partecipate to the Mini contest…how can i chose my team and color?
And what to do to partecipate to the main event?

some questions i have:

i’m in the 3d mini challenge and i’ve picked up the alien priest as base mesh, however i hate his necklace…it’s within the rules to delete it?
can be any photoshop touches for the final image (levels, glow, etc…)?
what about background…can i painted in photoshop?

Two questions:

  1. When you say no photographic elements… does that mean we can’t include photo references for textures? For example, if I use a photo of skin and use that to paint/clone my texture, is that permitted?

  2. I assume that the 500tri additional element(s) can have their own normal, spec, etc. maps, yes?

  1. you can use photos for textures. for the 2D people, they can’t put a photo in the backgorund.

  2. the 500 extra tris’ textures have to fit in with the texture sheet of the main character.

since the necklace is part of the base mesh, you can’t remove/modify it.

you can use photoshop to make a background. hell, you should put together a good image to submit, something like this…

…the test, the simple background all “fit” within the character’s world.

as for using photoshop for glow, level, etc… keep it to a very minimum… very minimum.

hm, what about posting our wip/or final image on other forums? other then the ones rolling with the challenge? are we allowed to? just curios … keeping a sketchbook …

edit: oh well and what about cg talk gallery? :slight_smile:

An update to the design. I think this will have to do as I’m out of time. This should be fun to sculpt.

The necklace is asymmetric in placement. Can I shift it just slightly so that it is more symmetric? Not adding or changing geometry or moving it, just need to shift part of it so that it hangs symmetrically. Can I do this after sculpting and texturing? Thanks.

Where? My guess is here for the 2d entries, and herefor the 3d entries. Each of the forums’ entries has a link in the banner. I don’t know if we get to vote for other entries in other forums. Anyway, I hope that helps!

hi, i just wondered, i know its ok to post the final image on the other thread within CGSociety, as long as theres been WIPs on the main mini challenge thread,
but is it ok to post the final image in your CGPortfolio, without posting it to the other thread or anything else?

Hey I know AMChavez asked this but I was really curious also.
I thought I read that the actual comp was going to start around the 20th? so would that mean that the next mini challenge would start around the 6th?
Also how long is the actual War? I know the results are out in June but would that end the comp in May?

Sorry if this info is printed somewhere, I just didn’t see it and inquiring minds want to know :).
