Dominance War III - Winners Announced! & Top 50
Chudd definitely had my vote for 1st place…well If i actually had a vote
Flippin’ sweet character.
Congrats to all who placed! And respect to those who managed to finish in such a short and challenging competition.
Man… there are some sweet entries in there… and there’s a mindblowing amount of quality work in the top 50… but i’d have been happier to see CGSociety getting a better position…
still… congrats to all the winners:beer:
The 2d champion sounds like a complete asshole
really why?
anyway…
walrus…good work man…i love the octo thimgys eyes…lol
and it was good to finally see a real picture of you on the winners page…for some reason i thought you were much older tho ive never really thought about it…
and gratz to all the other CGtalk ppl that finished the war…
good stuff folks…maybe ill join ya next year if i have time
whoa, all spectacular artworks! must’ve been hard judging… congratulations for all winner! great entries!
You mean the 3d champion right?? :S
Some amazing entries this year. Presently saving the construction images for inspiration and learning for next years comp…done in Blender of course
The 2d winner sounds like a art director that would enslave you on a 12 hours/day crunch with no weekend to get the job done.
plus his concept that looks so good in 2d would most likely seem like a huge heavy mess in a game engine, a complete pain to a lot people working on such concept and since he does not seem to realize that, makes him an asshole for me.
please no personal attacks on other people who entered the DMIII [especially from other forums, and especially people you don’t even know].
you can talk about the process/contest/judging all you want, but don’t make anything personal.
yeah and that goes with the sentiment “my entry would have won for sure, if I had entered.” just kidding!
Great stuff, from all who participated. How many websites will be involved next year? This is really a cool contest. Would be great if the organizers could put out some kind of Book or DVD. The stuff from Dominance War just absolutely rocks.
I really don’t agree with the 2d and 3d first place but anyway all the top 20th are awesome now I realize why I couldn’t make it that far congratullations to everyone it was an incredible experience see ya on the next one.
Thank you to everyone who commented about my entry in this thread. And thank you to all the cg society members who gave me feedback and encouragement throughout the competition.
I was really hoping we would take the whole thing this year, because I believe we have an incredibly passionate, and talented community, and we had many strong entries. I will be in it next year, and I would encourage everyone who didn’t join this year to enter as well. It’s not just making another model, it is more rewarding than you imagine it would be.
I think it would be a good idea if we had some of our contestants add a post mortem in this thread. It would be great to share our approaches and what we think we could have done better. It will make us stronger next year.
congrats alex, nice to see some cgtalk representation in there! I think your model shoulda placed higher.
It’s safe to say that Korea swept that competition. I find it intriguing that there is so much talent in Korea yet I fail to see good videogames coming out of it.
I also find it intriguing to see the creative difference between 2d and 3d artist. And I’ll take sh*t for this. But almost all the top entries for 3d are “fat guys”. While each top entry on the 2d side is unique.
I kinda agree. I dunno if it was judged more on artistic quality or concept matching. The 3d entry doesn’t really strike me asking coming out of any sorta wormhole, yet it is amazingly detailed. While I think the 2d one is less amazing but captures the theme perfectly. I would say entry 4 on the 2d side is really pretty and better executed.
Alas, that’s why there are competitions and that’s why everyone has their opinion.
