really cool model, texturing is coming very well.
keep it up.
Dominance War II: monkeycorn
very nice, i love the detail in his muscles
would you mind posting your uv layout?
i’m curious as to how it’s laid out
thanks

Thanks guys.
I’ll post my uv’s next time I post. In the mean while here is a tiny update.
I tweeked the diffuse texture and played with the spec alittle.

As much as it looks like a dog dick  , the thing at the end of the ruin is just a crystal ( a very powerful crystal though, mind you!! ). I’ll be adding translucency and specularity so that it will look more crystal-like soon.
Also, here are the uv’s as promised. I’ll be reducing polys when I’m done, since they are excessive in spots. Now you know my secrets

As much as it looks like a dog dick
hah that’s funny stuff…
thanks for the UVs dude, i was wondering how you laid out your hands is why i asked for them, now i see how.
thanks again, & keep up the good work

Man this is a great model. Very nice anatomy work too.
I was wondering, how did you get the stacked uvs to work @@?
It never worked for me I always have the normal flipped inside out on one of the arms
if i mirror and stack them on top of each other =.=
Looks cool, but certainly add a specular level map and glossy map to make the mouth wet + slimy = disgusting ![]()
I mean a gradient falloff from light blue to white … to make the crystal more “crystal-like”
btw. better to recognize.
David,
Thank you and I hear ya. the uv thing happends to me also. Two things I’ve noticed when making UV layouts.
First, is laying out the uv’s top to bottom helps. What I mean is since the strongest light is usually above us ( the sun for instance ) so I try and layout the uvs in a way that all the pieces are in the same direction as one light would hit them, mainly from above. Does that make sense? Look at my uv layout to see what I mean.
Second, is to make a secondary uv channel where all the pieces are laid out one to one.
Zdenek,
Oh yeah, I want this guy to be slimy :). I keep reworking the spec and color spec to get the effect I’m looking for, but since I stink at rendering I can’t seem to get it to look the way I’d like. You wouldn’t know it to look at it, but the spec on him right now is so dang hot with white spots I’m suprised he isn’t all white in this picture. Thanks for disgusting encouragement
.
Christian,
I took your advice, but used orange and yellow instead. Now all I need is to get it to gleem. Everything is in the specularity.
BTW, I’m terrible at rendering, so if any of you know any links on rendering please send them my way. I’ve been looking into different ways to render this guy out.

Looks cool man, love the bloody maw. DoF may be a bit distracting as it is right now though. Looks cool, good job.
Gav
Yeah, I’m not going to use DoF for my finally render I just like how it makes the model look minature :). Thanks, the blood is a bit too red and fresh for me, I’m trying to make it look old and dried at the moment.
The crystal is turning out great now.
hmmm about lighting you could take a look into the lighting forum … there you got a
lot of infos and tutorials about building a decant lighting rig.
For shure all is depending on the situation you will present your char.
I like your preview rendering a lot … but i agree with the dof … its a littlebit too much
All in all i really like your entry. ![]()
Here’s a small update to show his back. He’s currently 5776 tris, but I may add some more chains and tablets, plus I need to change up the symbols on them, as three are the same.
What do you guys think of the blood? Too much of it? I’m thinking of removing some.

I think the blood is fine and your character as a whole looks sweet but I have to say that the crystal is really distracting. It doesn’t feel like it “fits” with him. Maybe you could plug that whole with an eyeball or some flames that are leaking out.
I know what its like to really try to make something work and then decide to get rid of it all together. It seems like a step backwards but I honestly think that if you pull it off your entry stands a chance for the win.
Just my opinion. Good luck
PS: How did you do the chains? I’m doing something similar but I’ve run into a couple of problems.
Thank you Andrew for the vote of confidence, though I don’t think I have much of a chance in this competition. Too many other great works out there and with popularity being a large part of the judging I doubt I’ll place, but thank you anyway.
I see what you mean about the crystal and you’ve got me rethinking it. I’m going to play with another idea or maybe just make it an extension of the stone itself. Thanks for the observation, it was very helpful.
As to the chains they are only planes with a high poly chain baked in.
I make Andrewbina my words,
And I say **** popularity, do it for yourself, people in the forum insists in acting like complete strangers anyway, and fight club would never get a oscar
