I may or may not color this its not always how I work. I prefer sometimes to let the model dictate where I go, much like how I paint I suppose. I may come back to the concept and color it after I begin the model to help guide myself.
Finally got working on it this weekend. Still alot to tweek on the texture, spec map, normal etc. Not to mention posing it.

Great looking concept dude, just wondering what ties it back to the theme of the challenge. Itās got a great design, and would make a wonderful beast. But as far as ancients awakening I donāt quite see it yet. Maybe if you incorporated away of it being linked to some type of master of the ancient race, or something else like that it would fit the theme better. Just a thought, keep up the awesome work though

In my opinion, the āAncientsā doesnāt need to be taken as literal as some would think. I think itās been discussed beforeā¦but it really is open to your imagination. It ācouldā be this ancient, angel like being or it could be a huge monster with chains and guns. Mybe the Ancient race is thousands of years more advanced technology wise but never eveolved from looking like dinosaurs. I think the possibilites are near endlessā¦again, thatās my take on it though.
Well, theyāre an immortal race, thatās clear from the way they refer to others as mortals, so the assumption is that they were highly developed to the point when they evolved immortality, either technologically or biologically, theyāre only āancientā relative to newer star systems.
What they are is essentially a very highly advanced race who are immortal.
My guess would be that advanced machines of some kind would be their shock troops.
Thank you Sestan, Skyephelps, and Gavin_G for nice compliments. So many great entries that its a bit intimidating. Iām going pretty slow on the model since I keep addressing some design changes I may make. Not so much in the creature but adding other elements to it, such as more gear or stuff in general. Plus I donāt get a lot of time to work on it during the week.
I think you are all right about the backround of these things weāre making. I guess Iām drawing off the ancient aspect more so than the advanced. I was thinking that maybe they could be highly intelligent creatures far beyond what we understand and therefore donāt adhere to the rules by which we think ( guns, armor, etc ) and possibly use bits of ruins, scriptures or tablets of power as weapons or protection. At least that makes sense to my little mind. I guess I missed the part where we had to come up with a backgroundā¦oops. Iād better get busy!
Here is my update. Iāve been mudboxing for a few hours and came up with with this.
Still have to add more detail to various areas of the torso and arms. I also need to redo the tenacles since they look more like turds oozing from of the body rather than living appendages.
I canāt wait to get going on the texture.
looking nice, i kinda liked how the concept was a bit more top heavyā¦ this guys feels a tad weaker, just in presence, love his mouth
The items on his back are sort of like weapons. Think of them as ammo and he is the weapon ;). That is how I have figured it. The items he carries with him are ancient ruins and tablets of power and he uses them and thats why they are chained to him.

When you say top heavy, what do you mean? Iām curious to hear youāre ideas and suggestions.
Anyone for that matter, please feel free to point out some things I may be missing:). Iām still working on the ruin piece that goes on his back along with the chains and tablets that hang off.
