Hi guys, I know this could be a very stupid question but I am new to cg stuff so please bare with me … I am doing a dog and I stuck at UVing the face… it overlaps at lips area so I was wondering can I split the face UV into several parts to flatten it more or it will affect texturing and animating the character?
thank you in advance and sorry again for the retarded question

If you have tech questions you can put them in one of the many forums meant for that.
As far as the lips go, sure you can split the uvs. Just use grow selection to select faces you cant get at, cut around the bottom or top jaw and flatten. Once you have flattened the rest of the face you can connect the flattened islands up again as needed. You can relax the connected boarders and also move stuff so it doesnt overlap. If yu have models with ovelapping geometry that needs to be on one texture sheet you can disconnect non continuous pieces into their own models, do the uvs then connect them up again and organize the islands on the reconnected model.
