I need some 3d models and characters, which i am planing to buy from some freelancers…
do i need to ask for geniune licence of softwares they are using…is it my problem or is it freelancer’s problem? myself have genuine licence of these softwares…thanks for help…
do i need to check genuine software lic. before i hire a freelancer ??
I’m not a lawyer but… my understanding is it is their responsibility to have the proper licenses. However, built into our freelancer contract is a statement where they acknowledge that they own the software used during the project. We feel that this gives us more protection than a verbal reply and encourages our freelancers to do the right thing.
Another thing you can do that was done for a buddy of mine is by the software yourself. Then you can always show the liscense if needed. For basic rendering and and modeling all you need is the basic XSI package which retails for about 500. You can give it to them to use. Then just have them return it when the are done. Or just get them to download a copy and just keep the bought version of it for yourself. You can also just agree to give them the software as a means of payment.
I had a buddy who did some free lance and the guy just bought the software, gave it to him to use and then took it back at the end of the project, so if he needed other people to do freelancing he could just get them to use that liscense.
