Hi all,

I’m new to this DMP thingy and am starting to get used to the ‘huge working size’ as opposed to the ‘hobby-working-size’(small) for mere web-viewing images! ^^"

There are however some parts I need some understanding to and hope someone could clarify it for me ^^"

Regarding setting up a working file in Photoshop:
a)With an image at full HD 1920x1080p size; should the resolution be 300dpi?
b)At double resolution of final output, which is 3840x2160; does this mean that the final output would be 600dpi?

Are there any more settings to be tweaked/look out for in PS? e.g. presets, colour profiles and pixel aspect ratio when we create a new file.

(I’m only working with Photoshop CS3.) ^^"

Hey Koosha

as you do on your hobby working size, keep doing 72dpi resolution. It’s ok for video and screen.
more than that only if you have printing purposes.

As Norberto mentioned, DPI is a printing function and does not affect your total or actual pixel dimensions for on-screen viewing and editing.

As a general rule, I’d say most matte painters start their paintings at 4K resolution and then scale down to match HD resolution (assuming that’s your final output). So for example, I would start a matte painting at 4000x2250 pixels, then scale down the painting to 1920x1080 pixels for the final output (the dpi can be set at just about any value as it doesn’t apply unless you want to print your image).

Here are some nice looking hi-res Swiss Landscape Resources i found few days ago. Seems quite nice for matte painting (private or commercial). There are not free, unfortunately, but quite cheap since you get around 200 high res images for 5 EUR.
I didn’t bought something jet since at the moment i don’t need it but it’s definitely something to keep in mind if it is needed for some project or just learning and stuff like that.

Hey Milan,
all JPG bundles are free of charge (or whatever people willing to give for it :wink:
I put 10 bucks for 16bit TIFFs and PSDs if someone needs a bit more in terms colors and range.
