i am playing with modo301 and i did some displacement maps,
they look very good, smooth, but when i save the project, and the images.
and reload modo they look very bad, like the bits are very low, even do that i created the image in 2048*2048,
i try in Tif, Targe and finally in JPG files, but happen the same in all,
i am doing something wrong?
thanks.
Displacment in modo
hmm, odd, haven’t seen this one yet. Have you tried asking your question on forums.luxology.com The dev people are very helpful.
Maybe you need to change the subdivide settings? Hit + a couple of times and see whether this helps.
hi thanks for the options, i was wokring on a subD level of 5.
when i paint the displacment, and save the files.
close modo, and when i reopen all settings are the same, and is when i have the problem
Okay, in this case, could you provide a screenshot, of how the map looks after restarting Modo?
this is after, i reload modo
looks like the displacment map is like 4bits =(
imagine that the one i did was everything looking very smotth and nice
and i set Sub d till lvl 9 and same issue
if you worked on a vectorial displacement , you’d have to save it as an .exr file.
other classic graymap displacement can be tiff or tga.
Correct - you must use either .EXR (modos default) or .HDR formats for vector displacements so the high range of values can be saved. Using anything else looses alot of information and therefore you are present with a lower quality image.
havent try that,
i use tiff and targa,
i try using the normal displacment, black and with, and the vercorial,
i will try later on using the default 2d for modo.
so if a i do vectorial how do i export the displacment to use it on a diferent program?
It can be set to a normal hightfield displacement map, but still needs to be in the .EXR or .HDR formats to give you all the quality.
