displacement mapping mudbox to maya w/ mental ray

Hey,

I’m trying to export a displacement map out of mudbox and plug it into maya through mental ray. Using (pretty much) any export option from mudbox, all mental ray subdivision flavors, tweaking the color ranges and other settings in the file node, etc… etc… etc… :banghead: I always get more or less the same result. Fine detail seems to be coming through, but the model is still faceted.

I’ve attached an image to show what I mean. (obviously, the eyelid is meant to have a smooth arc, but you can still see clearly where the low-poly mesh is, and yet the word “test” scribbled into the lower lid comes through, so something is working.)

Does anybody what I’m doing wrong? Or at least point me in the right direction? I’m not even sure where to look.
