Displacement Error???

#1

Hi,

Not sure if I a missing something but I built a polygonal sphere and applied displacement in Messiah 2.4b. There is errors resulting in breaks at peaks of the sphere.

Could anyone confirm this is the same for them? See attached file. Thanks.

I haven’t downloaded the zip file but would suggest a few obvious problems that might be causing it…

ensure that the sphere is a “meta-nurb” or sub-patch object, select it & hit TAB key…if it won’t allow it try importing another object in LWO or OBJ format.

Start small…put displace on 1 (1=on/0=off) but turn the bump way down to 0.1 or lower & work up from there. The bump settings are very sensitive.

Check the division levels of the sphere…turn the Sub Level to 10 & see what happens, if it’s divided more it should allow finer displacements.

Bilious Frog,

Thanks. I have tried all of that. Would appreciate if someone could at least try the file and see if I missed some steps or did something wrong. Much appreciated.

okafor,

There appears to be an imperfection of some sort in you mesh, this is visible in the OGL mode, before rendering. This imperfection (or what ever you call it) is causing your mesh to break up at that point. Also not everone has AoN, so remember when posting use stock nodes in order for other to look at your project as you see it. So I would first re-export your sphere and try again.

Hope it helps
