Disolving an object from the scene

#1

I have a character that I want to disolve out of the scene over a period of 5-10 frames. The method I thought would work was to bring up object properties and select ‘Visibility’ from the Rendering control section. However, when I do that the number I select becomes the default 'visibility throughout the animation, right back to frame 1.

Can anyone help me with this problem. My whole animation hinges on this transition.

Many thanks,

The visibility track can be animated, you would just need to turn on autokey and setup your eyframes appropriately, so it’s 1 up until time to disappear, and goes to 0 to disappear. However, if you have any access to compositing software, you may find it easier/better to composite the effect, render overlapping frames of the scene with the character visible, then the same frames with the character hidden, and fade between the two versions.

I appreciate the help. The visibilty track worked just fine as you described it.

On the subject of compositing software, I’m trying real hard to learn Combustion. Unfortunately I can’t find a tutorial that starts you from ground zero on setting up a key. I’ve looked at autodesk and it seems we’re jumping into the middle of an activity, where the person is explaining how the diamond key works. I want to know how to put in the background, once the keyed color is removed. I’d like to use a luminance key as the bkgrnd color is black. Then I’ld like to have either a real city street or a 3D street keyed into the bkgrnd.
Can you help me on this, or direct me to a simple tutorial?
