Directx to 3ds and vice-versa

Hi!

Me and a couple of friends decided to combine our knowledge and see what each and every one of us has learned in the past years. We decided to make a shooter game. The fact is that we would like to make the engine and everything else from scratch. The problem ocured between me and the programer when we had common tasks, like making particles… He can make them in dx and I can make them in 3ds max. If i do them in max, then how will he integrate it? Won’t I end up with a huge amount of .x files making our life a living hell?

I guess what I’m actually asking for is some tutorials for max made games and some help with organization…what purpose does a max user have in game development and what does the programer have and when does the work start to mix toghether?
