Did not know uploading starts new thread...

#1

hmm… I did not know the uploaded images starts a thread in Finished Gallery.
Now I have 2 threads for my old boxylady image. First one I posted long ago.

If people will upload their images that they have already posted to CGTalk … there will be billion of douple threads about same images.

I think there should be options to connect already posted images to your gallery without new threads. Or is there already?

Your current gallery should autofill into your portfolio gallery when you log in

Rob’s been doing a bit of work there lately, something could be broken.

My CGChoice works were there, but I wanted to upload one other image which did not get the award. I don’t mind it got new thread, but I had posted it earlier already (long time ago)so it kinda feels unnecessary.

I hear you, pufferfish- I posted a bunch of work in my gallery- 3 piececs that weren’ finished (I know, it’s supposed to be a portfolio, with finished work, I just couldn’t wait to pop something new up there). Anyway, it of course is now also in the “finished” forum, and you can guess what kind of response my unfinished work recieved there.

This might just be a case of me using this in a way that wasn’t intended…

For the time being put a “WIP” in the title of your works, hopefully Leigh will then reject the image from the finished gallery. (Is that the best way to do it Leigh?)

In future revisions there is a plan for a dedicated area of portfolio for works in progress.

This does mean that even unfinished your art is good enough for the finished gallery  Mine didn’t make it :frowning:

I have the same problem. I have paintings that were submitted to cgtalk long before CG Choice Awards/Galleries existed, and they don’t show up in the automatically added images in the portfolio. I’d have to resubmit them all over again, and starting up new threads is very unnecessary, as those older images have already been used to death by various magazines/publications in the past few years.

#8

Like I mentioned earlier in my other thread:
Would it be possible to make it so we can choose wether an image get’s added to the forums or not?

I don’t mean work in progress but I do have rougher work for trading card illustrations which are finished but which are not the quality or style I like to have up on the cgtalk forums.

I however would love to have them in the portfolio because they show the more painterly/rougher more “illustratory” side of me.

That would solve this “problem”. Not sure if there is intention to control what people can upload for their gallery though. With current system Leigh can keep eye on works going through right?

#10

Yeah, I guess that’s a plan

Alternatively, why not have an option when submitting portfolio images that lets users choose whether or not they want to start a thread?

#11

…that’s even better idea.

#12

Ok it’s changed. See the changelog for details.

#13

sorry to say but yes I don’t really like the fact that every image added starts a new thread.

I feel that it’s very important to put some sketches in my portfolio. Many people like to see the sketches to see an artist’s thinking process but I didn’t want to post my WIP sketches in the “Finished Works” section.

#14

There is also another section to portfolio which allows you to post work in progresses and update them and all sorts of neat stuff. But it’s a way away

#15

So… (I’m a bit slow here)… are we saying that when I create a portfolio, it will autopopulate it with images from my previous Finished Work threads? Because if so, that’s a problem… the last images I submitted were ages ago and were real hideous sh*t that’s no longer representative, and I really wouldn’t want it displayed  Is it possible to get them deleted before I create my portfolio, or choose not to load them into the portfolio, or something? Thanks.

#16

When you are in your gallery you can choose if the image can or can not be seen by the public. We’re looking at being able to have images removed but it’s going to be complicated.

#17

Right, thanks. I hope that button works OK, I’d be mortified if I couldn’t get rid of them!

BTW, by “public” do you mean everybody who isn’t me, or everyone who doesn’t have a portfolio?

#18

Everyone who isn’t you; the general public can’t see the portfolio yet.

#19

Cool, thanks for the answer
