Detachable body part rigging in Maya


Hello there!
I need an advise. I need to create a character rig and animate it. Idle, walk, run, attack, death. This character is a vampire kamikaze with a bomb attached to his body. I thought it will be cool if his attack will be a self explosion. His body parts will fly away in different directions.
Here a questions:

  1. How to rig character with detachable parts of his body?
  2. How to bind skin of separeted body parts?

You could just try a rigid parentConstraint based system and then just have the Skeleton joint system itself hand key explode for that shot.
