Desert Road

Some personal work. After watching The Hangover a few months ago I have been dying for a road trip to Vegas and that inspired me to do this painting. I had to put a slightly sci-fi/fantasy spin on it though

good work, maybe that huge tall rock formation on the BG can still get some sunlight or even the mushroom rock as well, cause I see some in the left FG rock

Thanks Jaime,

I was thinking about doing that too but I couldn’t decide if should or not since it supposed to be so far away. Im gonna give it a shot based on your thoughts. Thanks!

you might wanna play a bit more with the FG, MG, BG depth perception.
the mushroom should mos def have some more detail as it fades in too much with the far away stuff. try to get more out by changing the contrast a bit.
maybe punching the big structure further back and pulling the rock on the left closer, establishing more distinguished distances.
just an idea. keep it up.

Thanks!

I think a “Michael Bay Road Runner” is the best compliment I could have asked for! Seriously. I love love Michael Bay movies and I love good old Looney Tunes.

Thank for the compliments. I have been meaning to revisit this with some changes suggested by the other posters but I have just been so busy.

Rockhopper, what do you think gives you such trouble with depth?

hey Charles,

I agree with what Jaime said. In my opinion it would be good also to give the main rock formation on the right of the image some more volume, as to my eyes the thin drop shadows along the left edges give it a bit too much of a ‘planar’ feel.

keep it up mate, good work.
