Depth of field in Maya

#1

How it’s possible to have a visual control of camera Depth of field in Maya 4.5 ?
I need to view the Focus distant in viewports.
Thx.

create a distance mesaure tool. parent one locator to the camera and one to an object which lies in the center of your focus.

then via the connection editor, connect the distance from the distanceShape to the focus distance of your cam.

the other solution is to go in display>Head Up Display>Object Details. Now you can select an object or an edge or a vertex or whatever and you’ll noticed by distance from camera… Copy this value in the depht rollout… If you use mental ray Turn On MOTION BLUR otherwise no depth will be calculated!

have a nice day

on highend 3D theres a script where it create a locator in you view and as you move it in and out it changes the depth of view. here’s the link if youre interested, it may help

Huh? Mental Ray’s DOF works fine for me without motion blur being on.

Now i’m using depthOfFieldCamera.mel from highend3d.com.
It’s working good even in Maya 4.5
Thx to all. :bounce:

or, if you have access to a comp package after…

make every object in your scene black, and then add enviro fog and tweak the settings, this is what i use normally when I’m doing it in maya…

Another great tool is Dirk (Connect Polyshape) Bialluch’s DOF-control.mel at his site: http://www.lightstorm3d.com/tools/freetools/html/free_tools.html
