Depth Fading


Hey guys,
how do i go about doing depth fading in maya

i know depth of feild
and centrew of interest and all that
but DOF blurs all objects even if in foreground except your focal point
where as what i want to do is blur things the farther back they get

any help is appreciated


Make your focal point where the camera is and use DOF.



You can also try rendering with the z channel turned on in your globals. This way, when you go to composite you can use a filter to achieve the depth your looking for. Im not sure which compositing program you use but in shake there are filters specifically designed for Z depth(as Im sure all the other have as well). You will be able to adjust the blur, fog, whatever you want and you can adjust the gradual effect from fromt to rear.
