hey, glad to find another SCAD animator in here. I know David so I was like, that name looks familier and yep, I remember that project from last spring.
I know a lot of people you should show the basics of animation like a lift, and a walk or run, but I talked to a lot of animators at some large studios at SIGGRAPH this year and said they would like to see more “acting” and emotion. They can tell easily if you can do the basics like stated above. So if you are going to do one of the above, then make it extremely interesting like lifting a bus rather than a simple sphere. They get a lot of reels with great walk cycles and such, but to make yourself stand out you have to do something that will make you different. Not saying that walk cycles are useless, but they can be more powerful with some other action with it.
Other than that I think you got some good stuff. I would also cut out the generi rig with the 10 second club sound file, they get those every month and I know I am even getting sick of seeing them and I am not watching nearly a fraction of demo reels they are reviewing.
Those are my only tips but keep it up and good luck. Nice job on the “Old man and the fish” animation, I really liked it and that is probably your strongest piece in your reel.
