Is there a way i can set Wings up to use a .wings file as default?
What i’d like to do is: Save a file with a cube and a few lights, and have Wings open this, instead of an empty scene.
I believe Blender can do this, but i’m not sure.
Default wings setup
Hmmm…As far as i know, it’s not possible.
Though, you could suggest it over at the development forum. O_o
Why not just save the file you want (onto the desktop / wherever) and dble click on it when you want to open wings?
(Or am I missing something obvious … )
pp
To use premade light rigs and whatnot you have to save the scene, and then import/merge it once you start wings.
No way to set a default scene that I know of.
thanks puzzledpaul and daftie.
Depingus: wow, looks like someone forgot to read the “guidelines before posting”
It’s called “a question”, and i asked it, in order to find out if it was possible or not.
Yours is the same type of reasoning that would lead someone to think that any sort of shortcut would be a bad idea, because “only lazy people would want that”.
It’s hardly as if i can’t live without it, but it would’ve been nice (which is also why it’s included in Blender)
PuzzledPaul: heh, yeah, you’re right. that is a good idea
Should’ve though of that earlier, to just replace my wings-icon with the file.
Then again, can’t blame me, i’m bogged down with writing papers and studying for exams, my mind is pretty comparable to a potato right now, i’m sure.

Long time ago (for me) but have a daughter doing same - so I know all about living in the eye of a hurricane
Sorry. I was just being sarcastic…something thats often tough to get across in print. In retrospect, maybe I should’ve added some sort of smiley face icon to soften the blow.
Anyways, I just thought of two (similar) solutions for you…
Assuming you’re using Windows:
- Create a shortcut on the desktop (or the startmenu) to the file that you want to open everytime (kinda like what pp mentioned except you won’t break any project directory structures you might have).
or - Edit the Wings3D shortcuts to say something like:
“C:\Program Files\wings3d_0.98.26b\Wings3D.exe” “c:\file.wings”
in the target (where c:\file.wings is the Wings file you want to open).
Enjoy. ![]()
Ahh…sweet redemption.
ooh, i hadn’t even considered that second option, that’s actually quite good.
And yeah, i sometimes come across as a bit more of a bastard than i really am, so i can sympathise, hehe.
