V-ray itself is the same. I followed Grant’s tutorial in MAX myself and was able to recreate lots of what he did in Maya. Not as convenient tho because Maya lacks quite a few things available in MAX such as easy curve to adjust colors and procedural textures.

Here’s some of my blogs learning Grant’s method in Maya. They’re in Thai but just to show you it’s possible.

It’s because vray was available for max for yeeeaars before it was available for maya, and it’s used predominantly for architecture, and the autocad -> max pipeline is well established, so that’s what they tend to use.

I saw this randomly before I stumbled in here.

But, it costs money. Yet, looks in depth.

Wondering if there is something even I could learn in that series.

What I should do is a how to Vray standalone tutorial. Tune in 2017.

To be honest that one sounds like an animated documentation… going through V-Ray’s menu 1 item at a time.

isn’t that good?
