Declined 2D submission

#1

Hi, my work was declined for the following reasons:

" * Your image currently does not meet the general quality level of the Showcase Gallery. The following are a list of possible reasons:
-There might be noticeable artistic or technical problems in your image.
-The context of your image may need a more creative presentation.
-The image might contain elements that could be offensive to some.

And then:

Your submission has been declined for the following reason(s):

  • You have submitted this same image or subject to the gallery before. Please do not resubmit the same content, even if they are different renders. "

And I’m really asking for some advice cause I must say, I’m really confused - is it something about the quality or is something obscene in this piece of work?

the only thing i can point out is the top left corner is too much blank space. i know its a cloud formation but i would even add some birds or something.
As for it being rejected i have no idea, i think your picture is really awesome tbh.
You know how to draw sexy warrior girls. haha

I would like to give you a bit of advice as far as your pieces and getting accepted to the showcase gallery… although most of the “important” people here would say I am full of it and just angry… hurt, or whatever because “I think my stuff is great and think it should be accepted as well”… It is not that at all. If you have looked through the showcase gallery and subjectively compared your work to the pieces that have been accepted, I am sure you have come to the same conclusions as I did…

Well, that is certainly not better than my submission
However! Regardless of what you believe, they will always be able to give you some random piece of technical babble that could also be applied to many of the accepted pieces as well, and you will never get any acceptable response in that sense because they will say they can’t really say who or why that piece was accepted, but as for your piece you could do this or you should do that… look at your composition… the lines… this shouldn’t be this way, it should be this way because that is what makes sense… whatever…

If you want a piece accepted let them tell you how to draw/paint it and then submit it… or become famous/well-known in the art circles and then submit your work they will be happy to take any old piece you submit then.

Otherwise, don’t worry about it, do it how it makes sense to you, and critique your own work… show it here to others and get opinions or suggestions (if it interests you) take what you like and forget the rest. Whatever you do… don’t discuss with them it doesn’t bring anything good because you will only wind up insulting their egos.

Well, I feel no frustration at all, don’t get me wrong, I always liked to analyse and discuss other people’s artwork and I would love some advice and guidelines from you guys as well, especially from those who inspire me
I’m also hoping to see my work in the Showcase Gallery and I wanna understand if it’s something wrong with it.
Thx,

Try to leave the artwork for a week or so. I know too well that you can become blind to your own mistakes when you’re working on it too long. That’s why it’s better to start submitting here in the early stages of your artwork. The people here would have pointed out that the pose was wrong and you wouldn’t have gone on painting without correcting it first. Be hard on yourself.

I do not only say this too you, I have to remind myself as well.

a few things to help out:

Her right shoulder is lifted to high.
Her left leg is completely weird
Her right arm is pulled back in a weird way, try to construct it drawing the invisible part as well.
The hood drapes a bit weird over her head
The wolf is looking like a rug, pay attention to his anatomy as well
The knives are looking like pieces of scrap metal

Your painting looks nice, though a bit of vignet in the upper left corner would be nice.

This is one of those pieces where the general look is good, but upon closer scrutiny, there are problems with technical issues (and these technical issues do matter, for representational illustration type works).

-Her right shoulder looks very pinched and sharp, and it doesn’t seem like that arm is structurally feasible if you draw through and try to connect the upper arm to the forearm.

-Her collar bones and neck muscles area look too cadaver-like and unnatural.

-The bounced light on her right breast doesn’t seem to have a source.

-Her left leg’s orientation based on perceived angle/rotation are each segment looks strange.

-The wolf needs more concrete sense of form/structure–the entire torso looks quite flat. The wolf’s left/front leg is tucked in a way that looks odd, and the rest of the body doesn’t seem to reflect the changing of weight distribution.

-This last point is more subjective, but are there any logical reasons for her to be wearing a tiny top that would easily expose her entire upper torso without any protection, while she’s got that one shoulder very well protected with armor? Fictional worlds still should have some semblance of logic at its root in order to appear authentic/credible, no matter if it’s sci-fi or fantasy or horror. While in such fictional worlds, paranormal, high-tech, magic…etc are the imaginary elements, these worlds still have their more mundane/practical concerns to ground them.

BTW, just a quick notice–can you guys start using proper image titles for your threads, instead of the “My image was rejected, why?” or “Need help for improvement” type of titles, as they are not very helpful in distinguishing one thread from another. If you have such a title now, can you please edit it to reflect the actual description or title of the image? Thank you.

Ok, thanks guys, I really appreciate your advice; I will post my work in progress here from now on.

  • I also wanna keep this thread open while I’ll adjust my concept - thanks again for your feedback

hey one quick thing that cought my eyes, apart from the crits you already got,it seems to me that the the girl and animal are on a different perceptive than the background,or at least she is from belly up.i could be wrong does anyone else agree?

The thing that jumps out at me more than anything else here is that the perspective/lens distortion on the piece is making me dizzy. Kind of like if you don’t need glasses and you put someone else’s on - eye-watering and dizzy.

Her hips and belly look good - flat on to the camera and all in porportion, but her shoulders and head are stretched, as if you’re not viewing the piece straight on. Imagine her putting her head up straight - her chin would stick way out and her whole face would slope down to it. That, coupled with the weird pose (seems a bit of a japanese idol ‘look how cute I am with my knock knees and big socks’ pose) and ths slightly strange angles on the wolf’s stance make it look like everyone and everything in the piece is about to fall over or do something wierd and illogical

There’s some really nice rendering on her belly, by the way, I can tell you enjoyed that bit a lot.

What I’d suggest is play with skew etc. on the top half of the picture until it looks a bit less strange. Flip the canvas horizontally a few times - this will show up the wrong areas. Also, I like to do this but many purists go mental over the suggestion - download DAZ studio and the free victoria model. Try to put her in that pose, and you’ll see stuff like how big her shoulder should be, whether she’s about to fall over or not etc. A life model is best, of course, btu there’s never one around when you need one,and guessing from her illogical armour I imagine you’re not a girl.

but her shoulders and head are stretched, as if you’re not viewing the piece straight on…

Thx Aran, I’m glad this thread got your attention… now I’m working on another illustration and once I’m done I will make the right adjustments
