Debugging UDIM tags use in Vray/Maya

Hello there,

<UDIM> tags… one of the many blessings of Vray for a MARI based texture artist.

But… when it doesn’t work, what to do? I hate the layered texture node. I never trust the blend modes and what not. UDIM tags all the way.

Yes, I have read the documentation on spot3d and it usually works just fine. Maya gives you an error message, but works anyway. Not this time.

Yep. My syntax is “filename<UDIM>.file type”

How to debug this and avoid the blasted layered texture node setup?

Look at the V-Ray output in the Maya Output window - does it contain any errors or warnings? If yes, what are they exactly?

This is the error message I get:

// Warning: Texture file [location]/[texture name]<UDIM>.tif doesn’t exist, node file21 //

Makes sense?

That’s the Maya error. When you try to render, V-Ray should print something in the Output window… what is it?
