Maybe it is more illustration than matte bacause 90% is painting and 10% is photo.

An earth type planet with the destroyed moon. The debrises are around the planet in a ring. The planet could be the Earth in the future:)

I would like to see more of this type of stuff here. I try and avoid posting my painterly environment stuff here to avoid the whole ā€œwhats matte painting argumentā€. But I really hope that doesnt happen and you keep posting this stuff!

I think this is a nice paint, but the planet need more blur and atmosphere :slight_smile:

Original picture size is 4500x2500px so the palnet has a lot of hours to painted it.

Ppzek, it is depend on your screen. On my screen i tryed to enchance the contrast but a lot of details burned out.

The absolute contrast looks fine to me, but I think your starfield could be improved. Right now, the ā€œblackā€ looks blue, which implies that thereā€™s some kind of light scattering going on. That vacuum should probably be the darkest part of the image, even darker than the shadows on the asteroids, which might have just a little bit of light bouncing off them.

That aside, itā€™s a gorgeous painting, and I envy your skill!

nice start, but I think in order to make something more photo real, you have to make the space way darker, add way more atmosphere to the planet and work with attention to detail , to the ocean line,texture variation etc you can find this tutorial useful

wow james, a deviantart link :smiley: That tutorial is good atmosphere wise, but I wouldnt recommend it for the texture, which is badā€¦
