Well that’s good, I’m considering purchasing but from the look of the posts here and on their own site it looked kinda grim. I’m planning on using it with LW - can anyone post experiences they may have, good and bad?
dead forum
Everyone is hanging out on IRC now.
#Messiah3D irc.freenode.net
We usually have 12 people chatting in there on average now. Our community of “hard core” Messiah users is growing.
You sure didn’t really take a close look, did you? The Messiah forum is one of the most active “Application Specific (3D Specialty)” forums on this board. There is at least one post a day on average. And in your case already several replies in the first two hours.
So long story short. Nope definitely not dead…but much much more alive in the Messiah IRC channel, where the party never stops. :bounce:
If this forum was deas would you get this many replies already…wait, unless…g…g…g.ghosts!?!
<Fred> Ghosts?!?! What do you think Scooby?
<Scooby> Bunny!
This forum, and the IRC channel are a lot more active than other software programs that used to have a forum here. In fact, it’s because of some of the stuff that I’ve seen recently on the IRC channel, that I’ve decided to purchase a copy of Workstation. ![]()
Well other than the “fluffy things” thread the only other post was 3 days ago - that’s not very active to me. I’m trying to get a feel for this program, and whether it is flourishing.
Seems to me that your looking for that Motherly figure to step in and say “Don’t jump, it’s not worth your time.” I highly doubt that you’re gonna find that here. I’ve played with the demo for about a week now, and decided that the jump is well worth it, and I’m strapping on the bungie cord. ![]()
Just because a forum isn’t as active as you’d like it to be, doesn’t mean that it isn’t active. I’ve seen several forums for different programs where there wasn’t a message posted for ages, yet I know that there are thousands of users for that software. And like Wegg said above, come join the IRC chat channel… Plenty going on in there most hours of the day.
Only you can decide whether or not the software is going to fit a need you have now. I see it all the time with video camera’s. People are always asking when the latest and greatest is going to come out. Well, if you don’t have a need for the tool (camera) right now, then you can wait. Those that have a need right now, will evaluate and purchase the tool they feel will best suit their need. It’s all just tools… Freak, I bought 3 drills this past summer, each one better then the previous, and in the end I use the first one I bought the most! Use the tool that works best for what you need, and if you are wanting CA tools for LW, then Messiah is it. :buttrock:
No Vong, I’m trying to evaluate one piece of software compared to others. Seems the logical place to go would be the forums of said software where others have already been using it for some time. Guess I was wrong. My point in my post was that often times forums are very busy because the software is either very buggy or hard to work with therefore someone is always posting their woes. Lack of posts could also mean that the software is so easy to use that people are actually using it rather than trying to work around bugs (like LW). I don’t need everyone convincing me that the forum is still active and that the software is good because that was answered in the first couple post, I said good and then asked for people’s experiences using it w/LW, didn’t seem like an unreasonable request.
dead forum ? nop … no upgrades? well have seen an steady 2 months period for each revision in the last year. so…
ok I believe you, they’re not dead! :applause: Just thoughts on working with messiah in a LW environment? Rather than find out in a month “damn! Wish someone would’ve told me that!” How smooth? Many crashes? Stable as can be? Seemless? You know, all that good stuff.
I did (my company) a whole television series with Messiah and lightwave. And that was with the standard plugin. Now we have even BETTER tools with .mdd and Point Oven.
Messiah and Lightwave are a great combo.
Hey Wegg. Were the animations on your demo reel done with messiah?
…ah, that’s your giant lizard (your companies). Very nice.
A lot of them. Yes.
The Ape climbing the building was pure Messiah -> Lightwave with the plugin. The dinos. The King and the Jester etc.
Is there a way to chat on IRC without installing anything? They’re pretty strict about us installing anything here at work, but I’d like to see what’s going on.
Thanks!
Then there are these tiny irc clients that you don’t have to “install”.
I have seen some Java applets .
If your work is using Unix workstations you could already have BitchX.
There’s also this site… It connects to FreeNode automatically. It pops open their own channel at first, but you can use the command “/leave” (without the quotes) and then enter the command “/j #messiah3d” (again, without the quotes) and you’ll be logged in.
Change your nick on there using the “/nick <yourname>” command.
