Final Renders :

Hi guys,

I've been working on this dude for quite sometime to improve my knowledge of Anatomy,sub-D modeling & Sculpting. Also, this is my first attempt at creating an "original"[almost :p ] design.

Here are the WIP renders from mudbox;3rd division [0.7 million tris] :

My Armour Design and Basemesh :

And overall progress [Just finished modeling his secondary weapon] :

Software Used: max for the basemesh, mudbox for the detailing[first character model with mudbox]

The "Dinosaur" Part is based loosely on a T-Rex;and the 'Minotaur' part is inspired and heavily based on Aaron St Goddard's Minotaur.
Kolby Jukes' attention to detail and the sculpts from the Sculptor's Corner were my main source of inspiration.
The Armour Design is mostly inspired by Samurais,Egyptian Hieroglyphs,Dinosaurs and Blizzard's Artwork.

I'll be working on his primary weapon next[a BIG sword].And then move on to skin detailing[2 more divisions to go in mudbox]

I'd love to hear your comments & suggestions on the progress I made sofar

Thanks for checking :)

Great looking model. I love the arm wraps as well, nice touch. What color scheme will you be using for his skin / armour?

#3

looks good, i like the porportions.

#4

this is superb. Really like the anatomy. Nice weight and flow.

This character will be great!

#5

I’ve comeup with a big sword for him,but I’m not really sure if its blending well with the dude…I’d love to hear your suggestions/ideas on improving it.

Th blade is loosely based on one of Pierre Mony Chan’s concepts for Kalisto…I’ll be adding big glowing runes on the blade [in the texture]…thats about it…I feel that something is missing…

@JCAddy: Glad you liked the wraps ! I plan on using green/red/black tones in him…something like the T-Rex’s skin in this sculpt :

@K_Digital: Thanks man:)

@curannon: Thanks man, glad to hear that you liked the anatomy:D

#6

OH MY GOD!!! This is so beautiful. I like his armor. Sculpt is unnecessary because there is so perfect without him. The bandages is great!

Ps. I’m sorry for my English.

#7

Thanks innos, glad to hear that you like him

I finished sculpting the region that was ignored all along…the mouth…take a look under the hood :

The teeth are kinda lowpoly,so they lack volume right now…will be fixed in the next division.

I’ve started working on his skin detail, and at the same time started watching some video tuts on SSS[thanks for the heads up pointpusher!].I’ll post an update soon.

 Great work !:applause:

Hey this character is progressing pretty nicely.

One suggestion; I get the impression that this guy would be quite heavy, maybe you can apply more foot padding.

I know you mentioned he is part mammal (minotaur) so I’m guessing thats why his torso is so humanly developed.

The weapons are great, also. Keep up the good work.

#10

Thanks fatihAkin,Threedeemer

@Threedeemer: Yeah…he is aprt mammal, but not too heavy…I’ll see about the foot padding…

Here is what I’ve got on the skin detail sofar,

Mudbox is really lagging for me now[11 million tris] but I’ll try to add some more detail[for the feet, and some overall detail]…
I’d love to hear what you think of the progress

#11

11 million? Holy christ! What’s your computer stats? Mine’s being a bitch at <2mil

He’s coming along nicely. I really love all the accessories you’ve done. They go along with the character so well.

#12

Hey vssrc, I think you have great execution and your character is coming along nicely, I am also aware that this creature is part mammal and reptilean.

My only crit, and it’s a small one (that many of people make), is how the animal parts combine with the human parts: Meaning I think the body would look less human like and more of a inbetween both species.

But I think you have great anatomy, your execution makes me like the character. I just stumble on this and now I’m hook till the finish. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the comments guys,

I’ve been a bit busy lately, anyways I’ve added some detail on the thighs and forehead, its very subtle and hardly an “update”.I kept the skin detailing on hold as I figured that I could probably add more detail through SSS…sofar,I’ve got a very basic color map, overlayed on the normalmap…here it is,very very very early :

I rigged him and made an attempt at giving him a dynamic pose. Here are the renders :

And here is an ultra hires render. It took a freaking 3 and half hours to render in max :stuck_out_tongue:

This the 3rd division[0.8 million tris] also I didnt include the skin detail as I wanted to show just the hand sculpt

Here is a 360 view [Rendered with E-Light as GI is taking forever] :

I forgot to give him some new, longer, hipoly teeth with better detail…guess I’ll have to save it for later…and just curious,is it even possible to get teeth like this in marble ? I havent run into a European sculpt of a reptile sofar…

@Goon: Hehe,well,my rig isnt much…its a P4 2.4c with 2 Gigs of RAM and a 7800 GS.

@inkyspot: Thanks man, glad you liked his anatomy…about the design…well, this is my first attempt at creating a character…so,I kinda put a dinosaur and a minotaur in the blender  Thanks for the suggestion,I’ll keep it in mind from now.

I’ll have a decent update on the color map soon, and I’d surely love it if someone could point me to a good SSS tutorial for 3ds max.

Hello Sri Ram!
I like your model and way you dealing with it (accuracy etc)
Cant wait to see finished work

#15

Thanks eof, glad to hear from you:)

Here is a tiny weeny update on the color map, just started working on his back…here is what I’ve got sofar :

A lot more detail to go

#16

very nice concept , i like it.
great modeling but i think the dark colored textures will kill the details

#17

Thanks a lot cgg,you are right about the dark textures ! I’m redoing it

Another tiny weeny update, this time on the material…I slapped the default MR Fast SSS Skin and played randomly with the settings. The skin is brighter now[a bit too much as I threw in 3 lights],but still far from what I wanted…there is too much specular and everything is too soft right now. I’ll get back to the color map now[will be tweked a lot to suit sss]

#18

Nice strips! (it’s funny but I make strips for my monster right now  ha-ha)

#19

Thanks eof, hehe,I’m looking forward to your updates

I reworked the shader thanks to the tutorial at http://www.lemiere.com/tutorials/tutorials_skin.htm

Its kinda waxy right now,and the translucency is kinda weird on the tail,I’ll fix that soon.

I’d like to hear what you think of the progress,I’ll be getting back to the color map now

I got a fantastic suggestion from Heber[TWEAK!]

I gave it a shot,and I got this

from this:

I’m open to any suggestions/comments on the PSed pic.
I’ll start on the diffuse from scratch now that I have a clear idea on what I need
