Ive seen some awesome footage of the game, congrats on a job well done…I assume its still in development due for release sometime this year.
The image speaks in volume as to the kind of game it is,…once again great job mate!!

Oh my gosh! There are too many comments to reply individually, I apologize. Thank you all for the comments and suggestions.
This piece went through about ten iterations, and several thumbnail sketches before that. The fish eye lens effect is not meant to represent an effect from the game (at least that I know of). It was more a stylistic/compositional choice on my part, to try to help focus what was going to be an extremely complex scene. The giant moon in the sky is a recurring motif in the game, and so that needed to be in the painting - as some people have pointed out, it’s not the main light source. I used it instead as a silhouetting device to isolate the main character from all the flying debris and zombie dudes.
This piece will also be in the next edition of Spectrum, along with a couple of other images from the game. Anyway, thanks again for the comments and crits!
Hey, its been a long time since you posted something. I really enjoy the perspective and the feeling of movement of this piece. Can’t wait to see more work, and the game itself. Wicked website too…I had my volume up and that skull thing freaked me out.
man! this is sick! i LOVE it! Great compostion and detail. Birlliant, truly brilliant. I love the stylized look a lot. And the colors. Congrats on front page, hope to see more work from you.

frances001,
that image so appeals to my twisted sense of artistic enjoyment. Great dynamism. Wonderful gore rendition. And if I might say, you’re carrying on the great Nintendo tradition (ref: 1080) of an ingame binary sun (in this case moon) tradition (i.e. where’s the shadow on top of the central gunslinger’s hat coming from?).
Really though, it’s a fabulous image, the fisheye is delicious. The poses are pure Capcom. Devil May Cry western. Lovely and rich and evil.
Foot to the chest - made me chuckle that. Perfect.
when you have 3 guns in your face … the last thing i would be worrying about is 1 lousy unarmed zombie under my feet.
Thats what i think when i see 3 guns in his face but yet he chose to shoot that almost helpless creature
sapienz - I so agree, it’s arbitrary, reckless and a corkin’ denouement.

having said that, I’m not a great advocate of this continuing videogame vogue of shoot/shoot/shoot kill/kill/kill. There are many new markets to target, many new underserviced demographics. The toddler dollar, the grey dollar, the art dollar, the car mechanic dollar, the pervert dollar, the friendship dollar … and I don’t mean purely educational software either.
Having said that, I visited the DarkWatch site and was delighted by the lovely sculpted model + motion blurred Flash interface. Whoever came up with that gets my vote.
thumbs up

Unless you consider the fact that a bite from an unarmed zombie makes you a zombie, and a bullet from an armed zombie, only makes you dead or makes you bleed

I just saw the trailers and game footage at Sammy studios, after following the link to Tsai’s site, and then to Sammy, and found a new concept art forum on the way…
it’s been a good day
