cycled motion question

#1

When I use a cycled motion action, walk, run etc., I always end up with the last frame "popping " back to the first frame. I already crop the last frame out, but I think it is actually my posing that is at fault. Particularly arm swings, they seem to show it the worst. Any advice here, to smooth out the arm swing? I could post some examples if necessary.

Hi,
I think the problem is that the curves of the animation start at 0 (for example) and have not any other informations before the 0. So their tangent key can have some problems.

I suggest you to duplicate the Loop and get the central segment.

I mean, suppose that the animation length is from 0 to 50.
Duplicate the animation, and close the segment from 25 to 75.
So, the initial and final tangents have informations before and after their position.

BUT, it’s depending from the software you use.

post your example if you need more help

Hi there,

I don’t believe you have to crop the last frame out of action. I’m pretty sure the software does this for you when you repeat an action.
Try setting your first and last frames to zero slope to give you smooth transition.

Thanks,

I suppose I hadn’t thought of tweaking the first and last tangents to zero. I think it will work!

Sorry, but you lost me here… how exactly do you do this?

One way would be to open the channel editor for the offending part, in my case one of the arms seemed to pop in transition, and make the first and last frame keys zero slope by clicking on the “zero slope” button in the properties panel. This seemed to cure the problem for me.

In version 10 you can click the bones folder of your model shortcut in the project workspace. Then select your keys in the channel editor. Then right click on them to change the interpolation method to zero slope.
