curving gradients

Hi,
I want to get a shape -for ex:like an “S”- filled with gradient colors.And those gradient colors should follow the shape curves.Is there anyway to make it with PS or other any app?

The only way I know is using inner glow from the layer style panel.
Change default opacity and blending mode and also the “technique” used to precise.

Now the limitation is the gradient to the center of the shape is limited to 250 pixels so it can work if you don’t need something too big

Thanks for replies.In fact i want to have an image like that attached example, but also it has to be soft passes through colors.Like a gradient…
If that’s not possible with PS, how can it be done with illustrator?Aspecially i want soft edges of colors.
(I am trying to make it in a logo design, and it is not my chose.Customer wants it…)
