Creativity Extension for 3ds Max 2009

#1

I don’t know if this has been reported already, but when I went to my subscription page today I noticed that there is a new download, the Creativity Extension.

Here is what is added…

Creativity Extension for Autodesk 3ds Max 2009

The Autodesk® 3ds Max® Creativity Extension delivers a host of innovations to help you expand the scope of your film, games, broadcast and television productions, while you quickly and intelligently optimize your models in real time. Add a whole new dimension of realism to your work through the addition of sophisticated particle effects. You can also incorporate audio and sound effects into your animated scenes.

          Polygon Modeling

Reduce the number of faces on your model, quickly and intelligently. The 3ds Max Creativity Extension release incorporates the new ProOptimizer technology, which is ideal for optimizing high-poly count 3D models from digital sculpting applications, such as Autodesk® Mudbox™ software.

This newest, high-performance 3ds Max modifier offers support for

[ul]
[li] Precision control over the number of faces or points in your scene/model[/li][li] Preservation of detail: useful faces are removed last, enabling you to reduce your selection up to 75 percent without removing detail[/li][li] Real-time scene optimization (optimization is precalculated)[/li][li] Batch optimizing of files (you control the optimization level for each file)[/li][li] Preservation of all UV texture channel information and vertex color channel information[/li][li] Optimization of multiple objects simultaneously (optimize a selection of faces or the inverted selection across multiple objects)[/li][li] Symmetry preservation[/li][li] Protection or exclusion of object borders, so your objects stay connected after optimization[/li][/ul]

Advanced Particle Effects

Incorporate sophisticated particle effects into your scenes. PFlowAdvanced includes 12 operators new to 3ds Max Design, giving you easier access to a whole new range of creative options. The addition of the PFlowAdvanced technology to 3ds Max not only greatly enhances the functionality of Particle Flow, but it also gives you a high-performance, streamlined 3ds Max workflow, through which to access its features.

[ul]
[li] Numerous paint tools enable you to precisely place particles in your scene. Operators—including Particle Paint, Birth Paint, Placement Paint, Birth Texture, and Mapping Object—enable you to paint both particles and emitters onto specific parts of your objects. Other special effects include the ability to emit particles based on animated color data in emitter objects.[/li][li] The utility operators have been integrated into the 3ds Max core to extend Particle Flow’s capabilities, while giving you a streamlined workflow for creating particle effects. Clean up particle flow, synchronize layers, repair the cache system, save a custom flow as a preset, and automatically delete operators that are not in use and lock or bond particles to an object (improves on the former position object operator).[/li][li] The ability to group particles enables you to perform specific operations on arbitrary subsets of particles. Quickly create multiple groups and work with as many of them as you like through such operators as Group Selection, Group, and Split Group[/li][li] The PFlowAdvanced Shape operators greatly expand the Particle Flow Shape toolset. Define a particle shape beginning with a pre-existing shape—a vast range of 3D and 2D shape presets are available to choose from. Additionally, the Fast Shape Evaluation operation evaluates a reference mesh object on the final frame quickly and accurately, significantly improving performance.[/li][li] Workflow enhancements include an Express Save operator that has been integrated with the 3ds Max auto-save functionality, backward compatibility with Orbaz Particle Flow Tools, Box # 1-based scenes, and general memory and performance improvements based on source code optimizations.[/li][/ul]

Integrated Audio

The incorporation of ProSound into the 3ds Max Creativity Extension means the software now supports integrated, multitrack audio to enhance your presentations through the addition of high-quality audio, and sound effects. This allows you to assign sounds to objects such as doors and fountains, and add a music track or voice-over for your presentations.

[ul]
[li] The 3ds Max ProSound toolset supports up to 100 audio tracks per scene, per-track animated volume, audio output normalization, and audio playback during motion capture.[/li][li] • An intuitive user interface and workflow features help you to quickly synchronize your audio. Sync your playback with the viewport, render your track to match playback speed, or play it backwards and forwards (ping pong mode).[/li][/ul]

ProSound supports both PCM and compressed audio in AVI and WAV format with up to six output channels. It can also be quickly controlled via MaxScript through 46 script commands.

Just started playing with the Pflow additions. I know that these operators have been available in the pflow boxes, but I had not needed them. The new shape operator, lock/bond and others are really cool!!!

#3

So no simulator of fluids nor sculpt tool like Blender?

The reduce mesh will avoid me to write one I was playing in my mind these days. I am curious if they will aproach with the same methods I was thinking (threshold angle between faces of a edge to select the edges and look the edge flow to choose which ones to remove and push the result with a calculated strength).

The extended particle operators was a dream of many people. At last!

Oh well, back to getting stuff I’d already bought… joining the club of character studio, reactor, stitch/cloth, ProBooleans…

Still, if it saves me having to authorise YANFPI (Yet another effing plugin) it’s worth it.

Cheers,

Steve

Nothing here when I log in - the last thing they have is that steaming pile of arse that they called the Productivity Booster.

Waiiiiiitt a second. The new PFlow stuff is for the DESIGN 3dsmax? In what universe does that make sense?

WTF?

Someone tell me this is a misprint and Autodesk isn’t completely batshit crazy. Or remind me why I shouldn’t just be using Design instead of the “FX” version? Is “Design” code for “Not Game Devs”?

#7

I’m more likely to think cock-up than conspiracy there…

But with Autodesk, who knows?

  • Steve

#8

Its a misprint! I’m using 3dsMax2009 and it works fine. I think its just an honest mistake.

#9

*whew!

I thought they had completely lost their collective minds.

#10

The extension is for both flavours of Max. Not sure whether the text was taken from the Design version of the announcement or was indeed a misprint.

Overreacting too much?

#11

We’re talking about a company which decided to release TWO versions of their software with effectively different default hotkey setups and help documents.

The normal rules of reality no longer apply when attempting to understand their actions.

#12

Much as I like Box 1, it’s a bit poor that’s the best Autodesk could do to enhance PFlow after doing f**k all with it since they implememented it in a version extension 5 releases ago.

It seems like when we get a new feature from AME it’s like getting blood out of a stone, and then it’s done with the least thought or effort on AME’s part.

Extension looks pretty cool.
Certinly a few things in there we need and can use right now.
Some people will never be happy.

#14

same here too ( austria/europe )

nothing here - did you get your package already, steve ?

it’s really time ADESK and it’s view of services would land in the 21st century
why in hell i should have to wait for my extension
i’m on english version/subscription … so give me the damn link :frowning:

o wait - nothing to worry - i’m sure i’ll get the silly marketing email in a month or two,
saying something about “advantages of subscription …”

#15

Hi,

nope nothing here in the UK either.

Cheers

Steve

#16

Just in case: The new extension is not grouped with the other updates. I went there first too, then backtracked to the Subscription Home page and there it was…

Ah, right I see it now - easy to miss.

Thanks,

That’s really shame autodesk just force us to buy three plugins

Particle Flow Tools: Box #1 $195
Sound Trax USD $250
Polygon Cruncher for 3DS Max $129

WTF 3ds max develop team just rename them and put it into max “11”

please buy Node Joe or glu3d next time, they are more useful.

#19

yeah got it too now

thx for the hint

#20

Well, maybe I should introduce some facts:

  1. This is not PolyCruncher, try purchasing a PolyCruncher that shows up as a 3ds Max modifier - and that uses 1/2 of the memory of the old Polycruncher. Performance gains too.
  2. This is not exactly Box1, we’ve had Oleg in our software for almost a year, he’s been integrating Box1 in a way that was impossible as a third party. The results are tighter integration, improved memory and performance.
  3. SoundTrax is pretty much ProSound, there wasn’t a lot of reason to do more to it - it is pretty much a very complete sound solution and requested by many Game companies.

In fact, these tools are important to both Games and VFX customers, this is incremental proof that we’re paying attention to Entertainment needs. It’s not revolutionary or rocket science, but doing this is just a small part of our overall plans to continue to deliver core value in Entertainment.
