Creating and pasting poses goes wrong

#1

I created a character with bones in 3dmax and characterized it in MotionBuilder, so now it has a fully operational FK/IK control rig.

Using the Mia tutorial ‘creating a walk cycle’ I posed my character in a “walk” stance and saved it using the Create button in the Pose Controls window. I then tested that pose by putting my character back into T-stance and pasting the saved pose onto the character.

This is where the problem occurs: the pose is messed up. One leg is rotated upwards and one arm is weirdly rotated (both look like a 180 degree rotation). Why is that?!

This ‘pose deformity’ only happens in the left leg and left arm, so my guess is that the LeftHipEffector and the LeftShoulderEffector joints are “mirrored” or something. How do I fix this?

Did you characterize your max character in a true T pose, with arms strait out to the side?

if not, turn off the characterize… rotate the joints in to T, re-characterize.

Yes, its characterized in T-stance.

Maybe it could be because I mirror-copied the bones in Max from one arm and leg to the other arm and leg (from right to left), so that the pivot points are mirrored as well, something MotionBuilder doesn’t understand. Hence the fact that the left arm and leg are affected…But how can I fix that mirrored pivot point without having to redo the bones and skinning in Max?
