Crazy Gundam Parody, Ian Wilmoth (3D)

#1

Title: Crazy Gundam Parody
Name: Ian Wilmoth
Country: USA
Software: Maya, Photoshop

this is intended to be part of a much larger piece, but as it stands it is a parody of gundam style giant mecha. i tried to include a lot of design details that might amuse the astute and infomed observer. it is modelled almost entirely in polygons and uses textures only for the belt buckle and logo. rendered in the standard maya render, composited in photoshop. it is also rigged for animation, and the ammunition belt, cord, and guitar straps, use dynamics.

the uploading process here cuts the res down quite a bit so here is a link to a 1/3 res version. the full res render is for a movie poster size 300 dpi print.

rofl

never followed this whole gundam thing, but its a bit like that hey…

#3

That’s really funny!

I really like the guitar/shotgun!

this design is actually less extreme in a lot of ways than some of the real gundam designs but to take every aspect farther than they do would result in something so grotesquely distorted as to be unrecognizable, so i had to keep things a bit straight up the middle on the mecha elements.

i should mention its supposed to be a scale model kit, like one of the foot high perfect grade gundam kits that have the full skeleton modelled in metal and cost $200. i’d like to get this output as a sculpture from the 3d data, funds permitting.

Something like this?

It is nice work.

yes, both with regards to the model, and how insane that design is. i mean, i have a lot of respect for those guys, they turn it into graphic design or architecture or something. but for the purposes of my piece it had to have a more recognizable iconic quality, so i kept the proportions fairly human, and which is also why i went with the red/white/blue colors. plus i just think it all looks cool

i do plan to add a shoulder cannon like that later, as well as a 7 headed asian dragon hydra:

but its got to the point where i felt ready to submit it for critique as a complete piece.

i saw the “O”, does that mean you get to punch me in the arm now?

besides that, neato!

I bow to your modeling skills. I don’t think anything can match the drawing though.

The dragon design really added that extra balance that I miss in the 3d incarnation.

I wish I had a poster of the 2d. (know where i could get one?)

Love the idea.

Keep going. Its not finished =).

lol, that’s hilarious! Nice parody of the over-the-top designs of gundams.

#11

whoa~!! thats awesome!

Gundams really rock; ironically represented by ur piece.
Modeling, and the typical gundam-colors work great in this parody,
and the guitar and the little hands doing funny things are very
humorous!
(that 2D drawing! OMG!! )

OUTSTANDING! Four stars from me. :bounce:

#13

that is a very interesting style you have, but still good work:)

ROFL!!! Man this is hilarious! I laught so hard, and again when I noticed the details!
Guitar shotgun, an Airplane, a Minigun with two ammo barrels underneath, 4 smaller arms, one has a Kung fu stance, one flips us the bird, and two grab the minigun made to look like a man’s member, Jet engines!, a cowboy boot hook thing, an amplifier for the guitar!!
Then I see the sketch, and I laugh again, everything in the model is there, but with a lot more firepower, too much perhaps, now the 4 little arms are doing different things, one holds the minigun, one has a knife, another has a kitchen thing (don’t know how it’s called…) and the last one has a gun ready to be used, DRAGONS!!

****ing crazy man. I LOVE IT!!

Excellent and very funny! Particularly the suggestive phallis of the gattling gun and its two magazines. 4*'s from me.

:applause:
Too funny, but so true at the same time.
Love all the details on the drawing as well.

#17

this reminds me of the transformers. i loved that show as well as this drawing. awsome detail.

i keep bracing myself for some moron to be offended but i am glad those people are either not posting, or everyone has a similar sense of humor to mine on here

i am continuing on with adding all the detail from the sketch, i posted this as a finished work maybe a bit prematurely but i just got mpatient wanting to see pretty pictures so i did the lighting and surfacing before i finished the model. my WIP thread is over here, i am currently working on the dragons.
