Here is the REAL fix!
Wait until April of 2010 when Adobe comes out with CS5.
You see … back in 2006, an obscure gentleman named Nelson Chu previewed a program called Moxi which is based on Chinese brush painting at the ACM conference.
It was a smash hit and was quickly bought up by Adobe. That was 2006 … everyone thought Adobe was just going to sit on it and allow it to fade into obscurity. Nada!
If you do a search on Adobe CS5, you will come across some of the features that will be included … paint brushes is one of them and I suspect it is based on Nelson’s work.
If you do a search right here in CG Society Forums using the search terms “Moxi” or “Nelson Chu”, you will be presented with a delicious array of samples of how his program works.
Corel has, for way too long, allowed its users to languish with broken software and fixes that just never quite make it to market (like the one discussed in this thread). It makes outrageous claims about some of what Painter can do with little evidence of results. And as in this instance, it seems to treat its users with disdain.
And for quite some time, they’ve been the only show in town. There used to be a skit on Saturday Night Live that highlighted the telephone company. It concluded with the punch line, “We don’t care, we don’t have to, we’re the phone company!”
So … maybe Corel needs to begin listening a little more closely to its users? They might be about to lose their monopoly in this market?
