Hey again Nolan,
Thanks a lot! your video was great, really helped me see where I was going wrong, was really clear
I really appreciate the effort you’ve gone to.
So I tried to apply that technique to my model, and found that there’s some really odd stuff going on with the mesh I’ve been trying to get the weights from. For one, when I do the save weights, it works (now that I used the ‘source cometMenu.mel’, to read all the source files in) but then when I ask it to select the joints that were associated, it only selects the joints in one of the legs… weird huh? Another thing too, the mesh that had bad UVs, but good weighting, well when I select some of its vertices and check their values in the component editor, it doesnt show any columbs for joints that they’re weighted to! Totally bizarre. Anyway, so clearly this mesh binding has some problems, and sadly I couldn’t find a previous save where this wasn’t the case.
So anyway, I did an experiment to check that I understood/could replicate the workflow you showed in the video, and it worked a treat
so at least I know how to do it next time I have this problem. As for the weighting problem, I decided I would just bite the bullet, and re-weight the good UV mesh. A pain, but having spent yesterday on it, it’s done.
So thanks again, I really appreciate the help! I was wondering, have you done any similar videos detailing the actual weighting process? Having seen the video you linked to, I can see your a WAY better modeller than me, and the weighting on your mesh was perfect, and it made me realise I have a lot to learn about getting weightings right. If you’ve done a video on that, could you link me?
Better get on anyway, will check back later
thanks again!
