Cool lightwave plugin/previewer !

#372

Frustrating? Hell, there was a guy on the VTNT yahoo list that was insisting that the developer has handled the situation very well; that the developer made no promises; and that the product is selling. This was even AFTER he was told about this thread where the developer PROMISED to keep the community informed. The product IS apparently selling - but with a video package and at a VERY high price.

It is frustrating when one person believes one thing even when the evidence is there against it! I really just hope that someone else comes out with something VERY similar before this product sees the light of day - then the developer of PIM would have lost out. But then… probably not since apparently he’s working with some “big hitters” already. So we, the little guys, are outta luck. :frowning:

#373

Maybe I’m just frustrated because I’m sick with the flu right now. My nose is like a faucet!!

#374

Cool! Can’t wait for this cool plugin to come out for LightWave 8.3. Let’s see this thread started in 2005… we’re now in 2008!
Best Regards,
Zareh

This is why you should use the tools you have right now…people spend way to much time waiting for something in hopes that it will make their life easier.

Use what you have now and when new things come out then see if they fit in your workflow.

I see this kind of stuff happen with upgrades all the time.

Once a new tool is shown people say they are going to wait to work on thie project till the new release…I dont know of a single studio that works/thinks that way…only individual users…

something to think about

#376

Very true, however, I think that the developer or whoever started this thread should come here and post some news about what’s going on. The lack of information has nothing to do with people “waiting” for this tool. I’m very curious to know what has happened myself, even though I don’t really would need PIM to do what I do.

#377

The thing is Proton there is NOTHING that can do this at present! Or there is but it cost mega bucks.

for Instance if any one can direct me to a plugin / program that will create a stand alone exe file of a Lightwave scene that I can then use the keyboard and mouse to navigate around also while an animation is taking place I’m all ears and eyes

BTW your videos are great keep up the excellent work.

#378

I think the biggest problem is… we didn’t expect it to be THREE YEARS.

That and the developer renigged on his promise to keep the community informed.

And YES… thanks for the videos!!!

#379

the thing’s a dead duck, just forget about it and move on.

#380

ditto that.

#381

good point!

#382

not really,… 3 years is a crazy amount of time to talk about a “future release”

Freelancers Lw main user base ( not many studios still uses LW as they main tool nowadays )

so freelancers depend on LW as there main tool and depend on it’s plugins,…
this looked like a great plugin like Fprime,… what would you say if Fpime had a 3 year wait ???..

poking Single users for asking why ? is sad … there is a issue here,…

is it with LW main deveopment changes and 9.x stuff ups as per fprime ,… ??
or has the project gone to Maya or xsi or modo or max ??

looking at LW development progress I would understand is it went else where…
just another :banghead:

#383

As compared to when? LightWave is being used as much as has it has been …Freelancers main user base? That could be said about EVERY single 3D app available. The industry is quite small and Hobbyist and Freelancers make up the majority of all software sales.

So while the statement " Freelancers Lw main user base" is true so is the statement " Freelancers 3D main user base"

LW is still in alot of studios and going strong… not sure where people get their facts but I’d suggest taking a tour of the studios in Cali and see what you find. Basing it off what you see in the forums is a gross mistake…most of the people I know that work at the studios out in LA dont come to the forums.

#384

Hollywood California is NOT the center of the 3D universe by a long shot

I’ve worked with and know many studios in South Africa, Australia, Singapore, the UK , France and many other european countries and the USA. and they have completely Drop LW down from there Main 3D tool to a bearly used one and some don’t use at all now,…

all over the last 5 or 6 years. :hmm:

I think it’s unfair to say Lightwave is still there ? when you don’t say what it’s used for ?

Zion and Flying space ships is the one and only time where it’s used for Hero shots
the rest only use LW as plugin to a Maya, XSI, Max or messiah pipeline. and only sometimes.
( with who i talk to, alot messiah users are now using XSI or Maya or render there output )

I’m sure you will find a one or 2 reference that break that rule, but that shows my point the industry is HUGE and LW is only a Very VERY small part of it nowadays,.

check the Autodesk and Avid sites the production stories are piled high and lots of hero shots and details that really show those packages do the WOW bits in the movies

8 or more years ago LW was everywhere and credited for most things that looked cool.
but it’s not like that nowadays purely because the software has not been developed the way it’s users wanted…

#385

Well, time will tell, I think LW is moving in the right direction though, NT is listening to the users more than before, the betas have proved to be a success. There are still glitches, but not of the dimentions that occured years back in the NT-Luxology split.

LW is coming along, the last updates have shown a good direction.
Next up is either LW9.5 or LW10 with improved CA. Wouldn’t surprise me if NT is working on the CA improvements behind the curtains as we speak.

I’m sure LW will strike back, and yep, it will take some late night programing.
All programs have lacks though, there are e.g. things I can’t stand in Max/Maya. Notin’ is purrfect.

#386

Wow, talk about the same old somewhat bitter sounding, johnny one note routine.
With all due respect, it’s really no wonder why this particular forum has become a place to avoid over the years.

#387

How true… Not only does he chastize Proton in his original post, but LW as well. Then again… it’s something we’ve come to expect from T4D.

The ONLY thing I’m REALLY surprised at is that he didn’t mention XSI. Incredible!

#388

then

I do agree with Proton there, that most of the 3D world ( all software ) is mainly single users, BUT that’s why I disagree with Proton’s first statement. hey the guy is a good artist but

then the fan boys come in with

but NO it’s Proton !! NO one should pick up on anything he say’s ?
he’s the LightWave 3D Evangelist  … why ?? :hmm:

and Tama same one note YES,… because the same song is playing… and I’m not a spinquad is it any better over there ?

I say again I own Fprime and use it, but if it took 3 years to come out, not many would be happy and that is what this thread is about.

PIM looks as ,. maybe more positive to all Lightwave users then Fprime ,. yet … 3 years ??

#389

Then why this earlier quote from you?

“looking at LW development progress I would understand is it went else where…
just another :banghead:”

Please be more constructive.

#390

Are you kidding me? T4D be constructive? He’s gone way past that (in the opposite direction) for many years now. EVERY chance he gets it’s LW bashing and (almost always) XSI pushing.

LW has a ways to go to catch up to other 3D apps, but it IS headed in the right direction. We ALL know the limitations and know where LW needs to be improved. What we don’t need is someone constantly bashing the software because “he has seen the light and it is XSI.” He’s so much like a reformed smoker talking to other smokers how wonderful it is on the “other side.” After a time (which has long since passed) it becomes very annoying.

But what does he care… he’s behind a computer screen? If you were in a room with us we would have asked you to leave LONG ago. And don’t get this wrong - it’s NOT because you would be wrong about LW’s limitations - it’s ONLY about the constant bashing and back-handed compliments. If you want to call THIS being a “Fan boy,” fine. I know LW needs major improvement - what I don’t need is someone telling me about it again and again and again.

#391

Megalodon I can easily say i have, and still do help more Lightwave users then you have EVER !!

and i have not said the X work here because i use all the platforms now.

I’m a techical director, I do it in whatever I’m being paid to uses, and that includes Lightwave. i still do rigging for LW projects.

you can ask me to leave but this is the internet dude, wake up to yourself :stuck_out_tongue:

erikals - yes Sorry " alittle" negative but I do have a point,. it could be true ?..
but I could have made it alittle nicer or not made the point at all … sorry for that
