Convert PFX to Polys: How to delete construction history without deleting animation?

#1

Hello All,
Apologies if I have posted to the wrong forum. I have created some PFX kelp in Maya 2016, which has a waving motion included, converted it to polys and then done a whole lot of modelling to suit. I then performed a geometry cache and baked the keys on the kelp. I’d like to preferentially delete the construction history on the kelp (i.e. all the modelling nodes) without deleting the animation. Is there any way to do this please? If I delete history, the baked keys remain visible in the timeline, but the animation disappears.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Maja

How about exporting geometry to alembic and then re-import?

Hi,
Thanks for your input. I tried your suggestion ie creating an alembic cache and reimporting to Maya. Thisdid indeed remove the construction nodes, leaving the animation intact, however on reimport to Maya, I had to redo the geometry cache andthe animation*ended up being slower than the version prior to alembic export. Any ideas what might be going on here please?
Thanks so much and best wishes,
Maja

You can use blendshapes.
1.Convert your pfx stroke to mesh.
2. Do combine mesh.
3. Duplicate the combined mesh,
4. Create blendshape between combined and duplicated mesh.
5. Export alembic.

Thank you, this sounds good. I’ll give it a go!
