Convert Nulls to Joints

Hi I’m new to Softimage, but well versed in other apps. Is there away to convert nulls to Joints. I have some mocap data that comes in fine as and FBX, but comes in as nulls. Thanks for the help.

Hi Andy, you can just use the nulls for skinning, no need to use “real” bones

You can easily parse the FBX and replace the nulls with joints, or it’s a tiny script to change nulls for joint primitives.

That said, XSI can use anything as a skinning deformer, and in fact most TDs worth their salt don’t envelope to joints that are meant to contribute manipulation and interpolation, and not final transforms, but rather bind nulls to those joints and weight to those.
Any reason why you’re not simply skinning to the nulls right away?

Be careful to replace your nulls with joint primitives in SI, the joint prims are still suffering from issues with enveloping.
