Controlling muscle mode

#1

Hi there,

I am at the latter stages of my animation and I am using muscle mode to clean up deformations and generally tweek things, however, I end up with a mess of channels to deal with. Are there any tips on how to get more control over muscle motion created in the choriography?

Hi John,

That’s a great subject for the Q&A article I’m writing for 3D world mag. I’ll get right on it and whip up a detailed tutorial.

The brief answer in the meantime however is:

  • Pose/manipulate the cps in the choreography in muscle mode to suit

  • Select the part of the model which contains these manipulated cp’s and copy the newly keyed cp keyframes to the clipboard (crtl c). NOTE: the cps with keyframes change colour to blue. To select them just selct the whole area including those different coloured keyframes.

  • Open a new percentage pose, reselect the same area, and paste the keyframe data (crtl v.) This copies the cp keyframe data to the new percentage pose.

  • Go back to the choreography, select the same area, and from the edit menu, select ‘delete keyframe’. This removes the original cp keyframe data from the choreography. You can then recreate the same muscle motion using the newly created pose, reducing what could be a mess of cp keyframes to just one pose.

I hope that helps!

BTW, I’ve had a look at some of your 2D artwork… and it is STUNNING!!!

Cheers

Shaun

Thanks for the compliment on the 2D artwork by the way. Now all I need is to get poeple to pay me for it

Hey, Shaunf, that was a quick reply! Thanks!

I will go and try it out, it sounds like just the thing I am looking for. There is always another tip or trick to learn.

Thanks for the compliment on the artwork by the way. I have always been shy to push myself onto employers so maybe now is the time.
