Continue simulation jumps back to nearest "10th" (FumeFX)

#1

I have fumefx simulation running from 0 to 100 frames. If I stop or cancel my sim at frame 43 for example, then when I try to continue my sim it starts at frame 40. No matter where I stop my sim it always goes to the last “10th” that I simulated, even if I stopped my sim at 49, it will say that the last simmed frame is 40. But I can see 41-49 in my output.

Does anyone know what is wrong here?

I definitely thought it was your Snapshot settings in Preferences. But now that I look I see this is not it. In any case, I also get this behavior but haven’t been annoyed enough with it to look for a solution

#3

I seem to remember this behavior in Fume 1.x, but I haven’t seen this lately. What version of Fume are you guys using?

#4

2.1a and the snapshot doesn’t change this behaviour.

#5

Hmm, the earliest version I am running is 2.1c and it does not exhibit this behavior either. May I ask why are you still using 2.1a are you locked to it?

#6

There is a setting where you specify how often the resume frames are written, default is 10, hence you can resume from every 10th frame. It’ adjustable

#7

Where is this setting of which you talk about? Are talking about Snapshot? or Continue Simulation? Continue Simulation always starts from the last cached frame (I can confirm from version 1.2d, 2.1c, 3.0a5 do work as expected). Initial State uses the Snapshot for resume, nothing to do with Continue Simulation. Hristo your are embellishing in too much of the fine Irish beer

I think Hristo made the same assumption that I did above, but it’s not correct…

I did a bit of playing around and discovered this:

When I simulate (Say to frame 46) and hit CANCEL (which stops sim IMMEDIATELY) and then I continue simulation, it will 99% of the time ask to continue from frame 40.

When I simulate and hit STOP and allow it the few minutes it needs to do it’s ‘stop’ thing, and then try and continue simulation it will ask me to continue from frame 46.

What you can do is just load an intial state and then adjust the frame range.

yes ThallDesign, you are right! It took me a long time to get this.
Normally, with small simulations, it’s no problem to start over with some frames you already simulated, but with highres simulations (>1h for one frame) it’s IMPORTANT to press Stop and NOT Cancel, or it will resume at the last full-10th frame.
