Constraining Cloth to itself

#1

I’m looking for the Syflex equivilant of Maya’s Cloth Contraint. I have a button down shirt and would like to constrain the two front sides to each other where the buttons would be. I’ve tried the Pin and Nail constraints but with no luck. There must be a away to do this in SyFlex. What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

use a spring

a tip with springs is to use the syCloth stretchStiff and stretchDamp values
as a start for the spring stiffness and damp values…

Thanks jmartin for the quick reply. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip on the stretchStiff and stretchDamp values.

Thanks again,

Paul

Is the Sew force of any use in this case? It sounds almost custom-made to handle this kind of situation, if the Syflex docs are accurate:

This force creates a stitch between 2 edges of the same cloth. The edges must be at the same place.
Select vertices of the cloth, and choose “Sew” from the menu. Then specify the maximum distance between each point. The vertices selected must be pairs of vertices at the same position. Two kind of springs are created:

  • “sew” springs, connecting the vertices on the edge of the cloth
  • bending springs, that allow to keep the bending properties of the cloth
The stiffness of the bending spring must have the same value as the cloth bending stiffness. The “sew” stiffness must be stronger, to ensure that the stitched points stay together.
