Computer Graphics Student Awards - 2011. Accepting submissions now.

Sydney, March 23, 2011 - CgCoach.com is proud to announce that the Computer Graphics Student Awards is now accepting submissions for 2011. The Computer Graphics Student Awards is an annual event which showcases and rewards excellence in computer graphics for students and recent graduates. Qualified students are encouraged to submit their Demo Reel to our judging panel and compete for prizes and internships at the world’s leading production studios.

As always, we’ve made a number of improvements to the awards. The biggest improvement is that the event is now open to all students and recent graduates from around the world. We have also split the event into three clear categories: Student of the Year, Studio Internships, School of the Year. All entries are automatically entered into the Student of the Year category, but it’s now elective to be in the running for one of our 18 professional internships in the Studio Internship category.

This year the list of sponsors is even more impressive with contributions from Pixologic, Stash Magazine, The Foundry, Side Effects Software, Corel, Luxology, Workstation Specialists, Pilgway, Smith Micro, 3D Artist Magazine, 3D World Magazine, and Digital Tutors. Leading VFX companies Double Negative, Prime Focus, MPC, Pixomondo, Image Engine and Fuel VFX are also offering 18 professional internships throughout Europe, Canada, India, Singapore, and Australia.

There will be 10 finalists selected for the Student of the Year category. 1 Runner-Up and 1 Winner will be selected from these finalists. All winners will share in over $50,000USD worth of hardware, software and subscriptions. There will be 42 Finalists and 18 Winners for the Studio Internship category. The deadline for submissions is 3rd June, 2011. Finalists will be announced 15th June, 2011 with the Winners announced 29th June, 2011.

“We’ve been amazed by the quality of our interns we picked up from CgCoach.com through last years Computer Graphics Student Awards. During their internships they gained the respect of our senior crew members and made a tremendous contribution to the lighting, fx, rigging, modelling and texturing of all our current movies.” said Karl Wickens, Co Head of 3D Double Negative.

“This opportunity changed my life and after winning (Excellence in Rigging) last year I now find myself rigging on major blockbuster movies…a dream come true!” said Elliot Stammers.

"Winning (Excellence in Modeling) not only got me an internship, it ended up getting me a full-time position at Double Negative. It has been a huge boost for my career and I now feel more confident with my skills.” said Dzung Phung Dinh.
