Are there any tutorials covering this? I have a scene planned where a character is walking through a house and walks out into the yard. The character and walk-run cycle is being done in Hash. The house and backyard in Wings3d or maybe Cinema4d by my friend. If I render both as tga files I bring in both tga files into AE and use alpha channels to glue them together?? I get it but I dont get it. Never did it and never saw it done. Reading through the manuals really doesnt cover step by step like I need them. Like what do you do when you have both files in AE? How do you stitch them together?
Thanks-
Compositing with After Effects
That type of shot would only work if you had somehow managed to get the camera data out of AM and into C4D.
Assuming your cameras are the same, all you have to do is render out your different elements out with an alpha channel and drop them into the timeline.

In this project, the room is on the very bottom layer and the math formula is above it with an alpha channel so that you can see through it to the room.
Thats really all there is too it. You just drop layer on top of layer just like in Photoshop.
That’s it!!! Thanks Wegg!!! :> I understand way better. But is there a certain way to match camera info between Hash and other apps? That means that each app has to have camera info exactly match? Like each camera has to have the same focal point and dof and all that? That sounds like a lot of work! At least I like doing it! :>
Thanks again Wegg! :> But the problem is its going to bea anmination so the cameras will be moving! :< ANyway to work around that?
If you have the After Effects Pro Bundle, check the docs, there might be a data type that you can export from AM to AE.
I export camera data all the time from Maya to AE, so I don’t see any reason why Adobe would leave you guys out in the cold…
I would also suggest Icarus, however, it is no longer downloadable, and it is no longer free:(
Good luck!
