Compositing shadow pipeline question

#1

Hi, i am new to compositing, now i’m working on integrating some cg elements into a shot i made with my camera.

But i’m struggeling with a basic workflow issue. (I am using maya and aftereffects)
In maya i can specify renderpasses, which work well, but is it possible to create a shadowpass that casts on and receive shadows off elements which aren’t visible in the rendered shots?

So for example, i have a cube which is visible, and 2 planes, one that receives the shadow of the cube, and one that casts a overcast shadow on the cube.
Now i want the cube visible, but i don’t want to see the planes, only their shadow in the shadowpass.
(This includes hard shadows of point/arealights, and shadows that are generated with FinalGathering)

Is this at all possible?

Regards,

Martijn.
