coming up with a concept - how do you do it?

What do you writers do when you’ve got to think of a story/concept in a short time span? Say 2 weeks. You could write about ANYTHING you want, you have total freedom. How would you start? Do you have any tips?

Choose topic u know abt, then no need to waste time doing research.
Decide key genre - adventure / comedic / love story / … >> sets style of story and determines what will be the key event / plot
Decide ending
Decide key character
Add characters that will steer key character to ending.

come up with point form of story, then flesh it out.
