COMING IN JAN 07 for FX WARS

#25

Mmm… I think i’ll try this one, if I have time (difficult issue  )

I’m wondering if -like in the superpowers challenge- we will have some movie clips to start with, or we will have to record our own clips…

Greetings Roberto, this is my first post, but I’ve been reading this fx-thread for long, you’re a great moderator and coordinator!

OOOOHHHHK now I get it. I like that a lot actually.

Chronicles of Riddick, there’s one guy that burns to ashes when he walks into the light on that hellishly hot planet. It’s nice because he keeps walking as he’s burning up.

EDIT:
Another one from Harry Potter, I forget which one but it’s one of the first two I think, Snape disentegrates a snake at the end of Harry and Draco’s wizard’s duel in the classroom.

That is a cool movie, have to check it out again to see if it makes the list. Honestly I think that effect is more of a “melting” effect.

In this one I would encourage people to record their own footage.
If you cant get access to a decent digital camera, just pickup your digital still camera and record your footage at 640x 480 resolution. But hey, if you can record high-end footage please go ahead, trust me you WILL have an edge during voting time.

To be honest, it would be great if a team would supply some raw footage (In exchange for reel/team credit) of a man/woman being de-sintegrated. (And the cool thing is that the raw footage can be received for a future “melting” challenge.

But if you can get any decent moving footage, you can disintegrate a still picture.

What is important is how the final shot looks EXCATLY like (in term of style) like the one from the film you have chose to imitate.

Oh BTW on this you I will require people to submit a shot list, work plans (for pre- production, production and post), and if possible a storyboard.

All should keep in mind we are NOT doing mini movies, we are just doing specific fx shots.
(Just imagine that youi ahve been comissiones to do shots for a special edition of the DVD of the movie you have chosen)

If it’s just a single vfx shot, how deep can you go with a shot list or storyboard? I can understand putting together the work plans (for pre- production, production and post) but that’s about it.

One thing I want to do with this mini challenge is to concentrate more on the FX.
The shot list is needed if you are planning to do multiple shots, but if you do only ONE shot you still need to add detailed information on what you intend to do with it.

The shot list is being generated more as a organizational tool.

I hope this clears things up.

Thanks for the quick response as well as the clarification.

To add to the list of the movies: Hellboy, when Sammael dies.

I would love to participate in this comp, though I face a small problem: I don’t have access to a video camera. So if anyone needs to put together a team or willing to share their video footage, I’m all ears

Roberto,
What about shots from Anime? The topic reminds me of AKIRA

You know…
That might not be a bad idea.

Any other anime movies besides akira that we could add?

#35

I would have thought that falls into a different catergory, but I guess the idea is to replicate cool effects, so:

[ul]
[li]Naruto (Bug disintegration, but disintegration nonetheless)[/li][li]Dragon Ball Z has a few[/li][li]Hellsing (more vampires)[/li][li]Howls Moving Castle (landscape disintegration: Check out the cool making of documentary on how they did it)[/li][/ul]

I think there are lots of disintegration fx in anime… of my head I can think of:

Trigun (when he become hyper mode or whatever - and blasts away a city)
Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory - GP02 blasts away the entire fleet…
Zoids Chaotic Century - Charged Particle Canon. So much melted metal…

Others to consider:
FF Advent Children also has some scenes, perhaps adaptable? For example, Kadaj and his two flunkies melting away during the rain.
Dropping a cookie into a bowl of milk. The cookie usually disintegrates after a few minutes of intense pain.

Well that one is more of a teleportation effect, and we can do a whole new challenge based on that…

I think it should be a “person” being “disintigrated” by a “device” without that person really wanting to be disintigrated.

Now let’s get on with the next FXWars.

I’m feeling the need to disintigrate my little sister.

#40

Great suggestions everyone. Unless this speeds up though the title will have to change to Coming in Feburary…

#41

Heh, after seeing your sig image I imagine she will be De-Rezzed after being hit with a frisbee.

Might as well add Tron to the list.

#42

I am going back to DC next week ( I am on vacation right now), and I promise we will ramp this up.

there is a hot scene in resident evil, where the special-force has to go a white room. and then comes a laser wire and cuts one of them into little boxes. and all the boxes slides on each other and fall down. i loved that effect
but i have no idea how to do something like that :stuck_out_tongue:

edti:

I think this would be another topic
I missunderstood the disintegration thing. lol

#44

Check out the movie “Cube” which has a better variant, much grittier, of that effect in it’s opening scene…

“13 Ghosts” also has a similar effect, but I don’t think it really falls under the category of disintegration, more like “sliced and diced”.
