Combine Objects with Merged Material Tags and Selection Sets


I have some furniture models that were provided in DWG format. When imported into C4D the meshes look smooth, but they are separated into hundreds of separate faces that I need to merge tougher. For example, a rounded cube wouldn’t be 6 faced, but have many many faces as the rounding facets would each be a separate item in the hierarchy list.

My thought was to combine them based off of material, but using the Combine tool, each face becomes a selection set with it’s own material tag. The goal is to merge the faces into one object per material eliminating the need for selection sets and multiple material tags.

Is this possible?



Doh! Answering my own question.

I can merge the faces together using Connect and Delete, then simply remove the selection sets and extra material tags.
